Looking at the 911 models starting with the 991 compared to the 997 I see no reason to doubt this.
According to this article the 991.1 was the last 911 designed by Porsche as an independant automaker. https://www.elferspot.com/en/magazin...1-1-carrera-s/

"The car was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt in September 2011. Just before Porsche being taken over by VW, only two years after Porsche themselves failed to take over VW. Therefore, the 991.1 is the last Porsche 911, which has been developed by Porsche as an intependent automaker. Depending on the source you’re quoting, roughly 90% of all the cars parts had been redesigned. Looking at the differences to its predecessor 997 you could see the 991 as one of the biggest steps in the 911 history."

The 991 had also been in design and development stages long before 2011 or taken over by VW . . . It is also not like they fired all of the Porsche engineers and designers in 2012 and filled those vacancies with VW engineers and designers. I think they did a pretty dang good job with the 918 after the takeover as well.

You cannot say that VW Group is not motivated more by money than by an ideal of building the best sports cars. They've now said it themselves.

Yes .... Perfect size .....last 911 designed by Porsche as an independent automaker. Old school real feel steering ... Virtually no electronics and silly gadgets (designed to entice gen x'ers) Old school cockpit no fake sounds etc .. The list goes on and on.

Are the new ones nice ?? Yes of course just not that true to form when you are forced to design a new model to attract the masses and not just the purists and all the while having to adhere to ever stricter emission compliances.

Automakers don't have it easy either all the while being only as good as the last dollar you earned.

I vote for VW to sell Bentley, Lambo and Porsche and charge on to develop by itself software-driven cars and let those brands alone.

VW - due to its dieselgate scandal - is the reason PAG exited the 919 LMP1 program and is now on this pathetic Formula-e.

Thats also what I thought, and even though the 991.1 was designed technically by Porsche (real porsche)... You have to know that those talks and discussions were already on there way about the VW/Porsche situation. So creating a pure successor to the 997 was probably already off the table. Plus you have to remember what the thinking of Porsche was during that development time of the 997, just saved by the Cayenne/Boxster, the 996 isnt the greatest received... answer. Save the 911, build the best one ever (to that point/time), and you get a 997 with every variant we can dream of.

- To be a fly on the wall of those meetings.....

Watched a new Leno vid with Alois Ruf while test driving the yellow bird and Alois said to Jay that when one person has a vision and is allowed to express that vision to fruition somehow it almost always works yet when that same vision is managed by a group it never works .
