Default 997.1 subwoffer deck covers?

On the interior rear deck of my 997.1, on the top of the subwoofer there are two flap/cap things. They do not sit flush. I dont see any way to secure these, is there a trick?

If you remove the subwoofer, you can use clamps to flatten the flaps out and then use a bit of epoxy on the backside to keep them flush.

Under those flaps is where the top car seat tethers are for installing child seats in the rear of your car and securing the top strap. A previous owner must have had car seats installed in the car.

yeah, I figured that is what was going on.

so there is no way to re-secure the covers?

They're essentially perforated sides that flex in the back. Once someone uses them, they can't be put back together the way they were.. You should be able to bend theh fronts down, actually into the recess below where the metal hook is. Once the flexing back part has this new bend memory, pulling them up from the carpet fibers or with a hook should get them to stick in the flat, closed position. If not, as someone else suggested, you may need to remove the deck, and figure out another way to secure them - maybe from the underside, a crosswise popsicle stick with some wood glue that you clamp until dry, or some other method similar to this. Another alternative might be to buy one of those pretty diamond stitched rear deck mats, that will actually help protect the carpet from sun though the back window, if such a thing is made for the 997s.
