I recently purchased a new to me 2007 997.1 manual with 66K miles. I paid $28,500 which I feel was reasonable for the car. I am a serial boat owner and a frequent contributor to The Hull Truth, so I was very excited to find rennlist.com.
1st of all- Thank you to TheBruce for the buyers-guide that was invaluable in my search. In the end, I really narrowed my search to 2006-08. I wanted an S but had several that failed PPI. Most in my price range had too many owners to have any idea about their history and/or had been heavily modified. This one came up and though it was not an S it had the basics I wanted and was very clean and completely stock.
She is silver on black with the following options:
Manual Transmission- had to have
Lobster Wheels- had to have
Sport Steering Wheel- had to have
Sport Seats-had to have
HID Xenon Lights- had to have
Phone and Nav-care less
CD changer- care less
Here are my planned mods
Fister Exhaust
Fab Speed Cold Air Intake and free flow filter
Fab Speed Quad tips
LaPower Bluetooth- I think it is now called Mr 12Volt?
Short Shifter- Which is the best? Is it worth it for a daily driver?
Repainting my interior trim pieces
Replacing AC switches with MACarbon
What else have you done to your car that you love?
Any of these mods you would not do?
You got that right, I just finished a full restoration of an old 23 foot Jones Bros that needed a new fuel tank among everything else. Unbolting and bolting on stuff seems pretty great at this point.
Good looking car. I almost feel bad to point it out but the base cars have a large wheel gap. I would consider looking into lowering the car - I have a complete suspension rebuild in my near future personally. I would try to drive a car with a SSK before buying one. Gundo hack should 100% be the first mod.
Lots of information on altering the feel of the shifting. The best advise I can give is to drive it for a bit. After putting 2k on mine I replaced my factory SSK with a numeric setup with the cables. For me it is one of the major inputs on the car and I wanted something more precise. I was lucky enough to have a local shop have a car in with the same setup so I got to play with it first hand prior to committing to the change.
nice clean car. get the gt3 shifter instead of ssk. Better than oem, no notchiness.. minimum get the function first classic shift ****, additional mods maybe tint windows, powder coat wheels matte black or gun metal, backup camera, dashcam, hardwire radar
suspension refresh is the most expensive mod for these over 10 year old cars. (coil overs, adaptive dampers like Koni etc)..
If you get S envy remember 'S' stands for Scoring on bores that typically infect 3.8's not base 3.6..Enjoy
Nice car, love the silver on black! Wish I had the 18-way sports seats - very jealous.
I have the GT3 shifter and the throws feel short and precise.
With the intake, I went with the EVOMS unit. It is priced a little cheaper and has similar performance claims. The intake sound from 5000rpm is glorious.
Be careful with the mods, it's a slippery slope as I'm finding out! I just did the 3rd radiator, next up is suspension... H&R with DSC, Ohlins, Bilsteins????
I can relate to your new to me excitement. I just brought home an 07 Carrera S end of October.
Atlas Grey on Stone Grey w/ full leather dash in 6 speed manual with Sport Chrono.
I agree with the Fister Sport Mufflers being one of your first items to go in. I love mine. HUGE value here regarding what they do to the car at that price point.
I also am looking at aftermarket tips, something with a larger diameter than OEM. I'm having trouble swallowing that $600 price tag for fabspeed tips, that's more than the mufflers were. Headers and Cats down the road for me.
I have Ohlins Road & Track Coilovers en route and possibly a few other suspension components that will be replacing some worn/sloppy pieces like arms/links etc
I also have the OEM Aerokit Front Fascia w/ lip coming in from Pelican Parts. Paint is scheduled and should be installed within the next few weeks.
Shaun My car came with the fabspeed tips, and while I do not believe I would pay 600$ for them, they sure do make a huge difference to the back end. If you are set on getting tips I would suggest them.
