Torn on Warranty Coverage Length...

No, I just assumed I could get better value by purchasing an extended warranty, if I wanted to, while it was still covered by the CPO. That reduces their liability by knowing that anything that had been a known issue should have already been taken care of.

On 6/14/2019 I bought a 6 year 60k Platinum warranty with a $250 deductible on my 2012 GTS w/ 20k miles. It was $3827. My car is a manual so frankly I don't know if I need it. If I had a 997.2 with a PDK...or any Porsche with a PDK.....I'd want a warranty. I have plenty of money to pay the bills and I never buy service contracts but jeez I've had sh*t go down with my Porsches.
And if you sell the car you can get a partial refund but I suspect the new owner would want it.

Another reason to buy the 7yr/70,000 mile policy you're considering is that the price for these policies escalate rapidly with mileage. So buy a 3 or 4 year policy now and then you decide to keep the car when whichever shorter one you choose is about to expire, It's almost certain that you'll pay more between the initial policy and the renewed one with more miles on the car. One more reason to go with the longer term policy is the low miles on your car and the fact that if you sell or trade the car you can cancel the policy and get a prorated refund for the balance. So I don't see how you have anything to lose by going forward with the 7/70,000 policy, especially if you plan on keeping the car for the long term. Buy it before your CPO coverage expires though. Big difference.

Is your car a PDK?

On a 6 speed transmission the warranty doesn't cover clutches and all. The 6 speed trans is solid, clutches not as much. My 996 clutch went out at 25k. My 997.1 did too at somewhere in the 40's as I remember.
The PDK is covered by a warranty and there's a lot of parts in them.

Just picked up a Fidelity Platinum 6/60 for my 2011 C2S Coupe 6spd manual with a $250 deductible for 5k from my local dealer. The car has 26k miles currently. Probably could have shopped for a better price but wanted to support the dealer that I do most of my business with.

$5,000 / 84 months (7 year's) = $60 per month. Car is paid off. Dont over analyze. Just get the warranty. Worth it for peace of mind alone. Just make sure it is bumper to bumper and reputed..

I am not a warranty guy personally, and do not totally know the terms of the 7/70k, but at 5k that seems like pretty easy peace of mind. It's very likely little things will go wrong that will add up to 5k over 7 years.

It’s not unlike an insurance policy, you hope you never need it, but when you really do ...
Couple of years ago when I bought my ‘11 C4S and ‘15 Macan Turbo, I swallowed hard and purchased a warranty for each one.
No issues with the 4S so far, but about 3 months ago the pdk in the Macan gacked at about 48k miles ... cost after the $6k core exchange was $25k.
Most happily it was covered, but while you’re waiting for the insurance company’s decision ... it really does make you think - so what the h*ll do I do with the car now? I had always thought, phtt it’ll never happen and if it does I’ll just deal with ... very different perspective if it ever does happen.
Just my $.02.
