997.1 Values
My 997.2 was victim to flooding and while I'd rather stay in a 997.2 or 991.1, I'm finding the 997.1 manual transmissions with 50-80k miles presenting themselves as an incredible value. Seeing some in the $24-27k mark, getting close to the upper end of 996 values.
IMS issues aside, is anyone else seeing this? With a good PPI, I'm having a hard time not pulling the trigger. Worst case, the engine grenades in a couple years and I've got an excellent platform for an LS swap (and much better aesthetically than a 996, IMO).
What else am I missing? I'm well read on the 997.2 but have purposely ignored the 997.1 up until now.
Thanks RL.

I think the dilemma a lot of people face is the possibility of IMS/bore score on a $30k 997.1 vs peace of mind with a $42k 997.2 not to mention the 997.2s holding value better. Also take into account if you want a lower mileage "S" or "4S" model 997.1 you're looking closer to 40 grand at which point it gets much tougher to justify not getting a 997.2. Lots of those 997s under 30 grand are pretty beat up.

Hmm, not sure where you are seeing those numbers for a 997.1 which is any decent shape. Check Bring A Trailer - you can pull down all of the sales over any period, and see the trends. I agree the values are dropping, but if the 997.1 is too low, there is likely something wrong or you still need to do the IMS, etc. For the record, I like the 997.1's the best.

I drive an 05 C2S 54k MT. I do not see how I could sell it for $24-$27K. I have done the majority of the popular mods and have never replaced the IMS. I would clearly understand that if I ever sold my car that I would have to lower my price by $1700 for the service.

I've been researching the market for the last few months before I made my purchase and in my opinion a 997.1 in that range of $25k-$28k and a 6MT would probably be a standard Carrera 2 (non S) with higher mileage 85k-100k in miles.
It's hard to find a good mid range milage 50-80k C2s or C4s below $30k, more in the range of $30-35k.
Cabrios seem to go cheaper than the Coupe and auto transmission tiptronic are obviously also lower price (less demand).
@BaileyII nice ride, very clean! did you replace the instrument panel color yourself?

thank you. No a forum member did the color swap for me. I did the seatbelts & the steering wheel myself. I just realized the picture was taken before I swapped the steering out to a Dallas Custom Steering Wheel.

I guess I got lucky, my 06 S' (manual) with tons of options at 90k miles was 31.5K...PPI was great, awesome condition with a few tasteful upgrades.
I think the mileage scared everyone away but I put 3k miles on it this year and its been a blast.
I think they are out there, you just have to be patient, then pounce when it happens!

My friend just last month picked up a 07 C2S Coupe 6 spd with 50k miles in the mid 30’s.
Good deals are out there.
OP - you are not missing anything.

There's always variations like certain colors, options, having records or not that adjust the values.
I agree be patient you'll know when you've found the right one to fit your liking and budget.

I actually believe 997.1 values will increase a bit. 997.2 is so popular, the 997 body style, usable power, steering feel, are so desirable, the popularity will pull up the 997.1s. And for those of us that are not so scared of the "issues" of the M97 engine, get a hell of a deal right now.
My opinion.
I picked up my 08 C2S, 20xxx miles, for 46500

I got my 997.1 C2S cab for $34,500 and it has 55k miles on it. Totally babied and in cherry condition (except for pain peeling on the temp controls). Seemed like the higher end of the market value.
