Yes, most of the time all the distance sensor errors are Intermittent , with increasing frequency.
Hot TCU that can not be touched sounds wrong, yes.
>Or there is an independent shop with a PIWIS that could do the calibration for me even if they're not willing to do the full distance sensor install.
It's more like the other way around. As calibration can be very stubborn thing - shops that are experienced in it, will most probably not offer it separate from installation. And shops that don't do PDK repairs - I would not trust with calibration. Yes, it's very simple to plugin PIWIS and hit the Start button, but if something goes south - they will have no idea what to do
For anyone who is curious, I caught the voltage drop happening on video yesterday. You can faintly hear the beep when the "Transmission Emergency Run" error happens, and it is at the same time as the voltage drops to 0. It happens 5 seconds into the video:
Also, while checking to make sure my connection leads were good, I noticed that my transmission control unit is EXTREMELY hot. Hot enough that you can touch it briefly, but not keep your finger on it. Does anyone know if this is normal? It seems way too hot for normal behavior for a control unit. Has anyone seen a control unit go bad internally? I suppose the heat could be coming from a short in the sensor, but the actual failure is so intermittent right now that it doesn't seem like it would cause that much heat in the control unit.
I've noticed this before when doing loads of testing. I was surprised how hot the TCU got. Seemed to work fine so I'm assuming it's supposed to be like this.

other control units get very hot to the touch as well. I used to swap a DSC with the OE one after driving and you could barely touch it for more than a few seconds. Perhaps they’re all this way?
I’ve got a 987.2 PDK getting a new distance sensor. I had the Porsche dealer order replacement caps for the rear case, which are superceded from the original part number. Ordered 9G1.321.360.00 and got 9P1-301-125. This is what the new caps look like. Any concerns?
EDIT: Seems like part 9P130615 is the part needed for the 987.2 cover seal. It looks like the part I removed:

As long as it looks the same it should be fine. I was in the dealership the other day getting a few items and I was surprised that every part I enquired about had superseded part numbers. Not sure if the parts had changed at all but the numbering system seems to have changed completely.
I've got a simple problem that is challenging me with filling the PDK fluid after the complete drain that is performed with a distance sensor repair. On a 987.2 I've got 5l of fluid that was drained, but can only get 3l of fluid into the transmission. I've tried running the trans and shifting into R and D (which now actually does something now) and then leaving the engine running in P and attempting to fill further - but no luck. At the point I am letting the trans cool down overnight and will see how much I can get in tomorrow when cold. This transmission needs to be calibrated, if that matters. But at least now when I put in R or D, there is actual gear movement and the vehicle feels like it would move if I took my foot off the brake.
Any thoughts on where I could be going wrong with the fill? I know that "fill mode" will allow .2l to be added, but I am far away from that little remaining.
Vehicle drove "like new" without any bad behavior right from the start. I did have to clear a PDK DTC P18B4 for "Software Error" before starting the calibration (pro tip - this code can only be deleted with the engine not running).
I need your help please. I have a 2013 991.1 Carrera S with a PDK.
Last summer I was advised by my mechanic to change the engine and gear coolers since the car is almost 90k miles.
Prior to this there was no problem with the PDK. Immediately; and after this change of coolers the PDK started to behave in a very strange way.
The PDK will make a strange noise (like miss-shifting in a MT); just before the 4th gear and mainly when the car is cold.
I went back to the mechanic and he said (ops must be your PDK is damaged!).
He did a PDK filter and oil change with a reprogramming that serve nothing at all.
reading your post I was thinking could this be a Temp sensor issue? do I need to do a special reprogramming to the TCU?
