Low mile 996 vs high mile 997

+1 for 997.1 or .2. Don't be scared of high mile cars that have good maintenance/history.
I recently sold a boxster base with 189k miles, the car didn't burn a drop of oil and ran like a charm.

I too suggest looking at a 997 instead of a 996. I did own a 996 briefly and in hindsight, the 997 is better in every possible way! My current 997 had 90k miles when I bought it last year, now just past 100k and the ims already exploded at 40k miles and was fixed by the dealership 2 owners ago. With a higher mileage car, sometimes you can find one with wear items already addressed - mine had clutch, water pump etc replaced at 80k miles. I'm not generalizing, but a high mileage 997 is not a bad idea by any means. Of course, do a thorough PPI and get the bores scoped and if possible save up for a rebuild if you're going to keep it for a long time.
That said, 25k for a 56k miles car seems a bit low - what about the history? Any outstanding work??
Good luck with your search.
