Waze and a built in K40 RL360 with laser jammers can't be beat.
You still have to drive judiciously and with strategy when rolling fast down the hwy.
90% of tickets are given from the left lane, so stay in the right lane ... if someone wants to go faster than you, tuck in behind a ways.
Instant on can foil the best of them though so nothing is foolproof.

Another Wazer AND R3 user. Both have had their saves vs the other. In laser prone areas, Waze alerted me about 30 second before getting zapped. But on the highway and most parts of TX, RDs are still very useful - - and the Ka range on the R3 is incredible.

Absolutely not. Waze cannot track patrol units cruising around town with their radar going. Still need detector.

Default R3, Google Maps, Waze

Kind of agree with everyone. It’s a mixed bag of help and judgement. My add is this: The R3 range is terrific for Ka and that has helped. I only use Google Maps for navigation. I open Waze in the background with sound for alerts only. These together have worked well for me (but on the other hand, I’m not really a speed demon, it’s just that every once in a while...)

Having a radar detector used to be awesome. Early notice of what lied up to a mile ahead. Then GM put k-band collision avoidance into all their cars and everyone else followed suit. Now radar detectors suck, even the best ones.

I still have them in my cars. Luckily for me, where I live, the police use almost exclusively KA band so on the fee Escort 9500s I have, I've turned off everything but KA and now when it sounds there's a 60% chance it's a cop, but also. 40% chance it's a Kia or Hyundai that also use this band for some reason instead of K. Then you get the higher end cars with laser cruise control like Porsche, Audi, Infiniti, etc and that's annoying too.

The best detectors I have are the Escort Max 360s. They have the arrows like my V1 (with Junk filter enabled), but false much less than the 9500s or the V1, even with all bands enabled and let you store known false locations with integrated GPS sensors (like automatic doors on stores).

I use Waze whenever I'm on a trip and stream Pandora and use the radar detector, but the detectors now save me less often than Waze does.

Google maps has started using speed trap alerting too. I like Waze but feel Google maps has way better routes and other options. However Waze seems more accurate on the alerting. They should combine driver input from both and it would real nice.

Some of the newest models have made progress on countering blind spot monitoring (BSM) systems.

The Radenso Pro M is supposed to be the best in this regards.

Bruce,
Waze is great and very useful if the threat is standing still/parked. But won't do anything for a car driving the opposite way with its' radar blasting. I'm sure everyone has seen the police quickly do a U turn on neighborhood streets or many times go thru the median of the interstate in pursuit of an offender. So like many have said, using both just increases your detection. Personally, like I'm sure most everyone here on the forum, I always drive 10 or more less than the speed limit so I (we) don't have to concern ourselves with tickets (wink, wink).

I still run my V1 and Waze when I take long trips. Waze is more effective, IME, but if a cop has just set up and no one has reported him/her, Waze is useless.

This is fairly primitive but if I want to drive fast on a particularly nice section of road, I will first drive it near the speed limit and check for traps. Then if clear I will turn around and fly through that same area with a higher degree of confidence.

I don't know if this true in other states, but here a red or yellow car, especially a sports car, is an invitation for a ticket. The law enforcement officers say this isn't true, but the data says otherwise. Yellow may be especially bad.

I *almost* ended up with a Guards Red C2S, I don't regret that it fell through and I ended up with Meteor Gray...bleeennnnndddd iiiinnnnnnn....

In the three months/1500miles I've driven with the R3 I've never had a laser alert. I have no idea if they use it around here or not but I haven't been seeing it.

I haven't got used to turning Waze on...just a habit thing. Apparently, it's really effective around here, lots of users, so I should be using it.
