Default Can I Start The Engine While on Lift Bars

Hey guys. Got my car up on lift bars while I do a few different jobs. I think I just fixed my exhaust leak and I'd like to start the car while it's still up on the lift bars. Is that ok? Or a bad thing? 997.2 C4S Thanks as always!!

Just make sure it's in neutral.

Of course you can. The lift bars hold it up by the jack points, and there is no interference with the drive wheels. I would not shift it out of neutral though. If you do, the wheels will spin, and that torque could create an unstable situation.

I’d never even heard of lift bars. Those are interesting.

They’re decent. But I wish I’d spent a dew hundred more and purchased a quick jack system.

Which kind of stands are you using under the liftbars?

... hope they're the curvy saddle type and not something flat on top.

Honestly, the liftbars get the car up just about as high, and every bit as solid and secure, if not more so. They are also quicker to use than rolling out the QJ and getting everything aligned and set up. Plus, I've had a number of quality issues with my QJ, with leaking fluid and the junction points. The company, after prodding, did send me replacement parts. The beauty of the QJ is that I can use it with all of my cars, and not just the Porsches. But the liftbars are fantastic, can't beat the investment from a value standpoint either. I am not getting rid of mine.

I bought my lift bars when I bought my 928 about 4 years ago, but with the 4 post lift and the full set of Jackpoint jack stands, have never used them. Should probably sell them to someone who will, as I also don't have any jack stands with the proper tops - just the flat Jackpoint tops and the flat Esco tops and don't really need more jack stands.

Right! Esco with axle tops (10497) are the ones to use. The issue with those is that the short Escos (10499) cannot be used and the standard Escos are a bit high 13"+ and I feel that tilting one side of the car that high is a bit too high. Comments appreciated.
