Default Advice on price for 997.1

Hello! I am getting ready to buy a 2007 911 S Cabriolet. It has 44k miles on it, premium package, full leather interior, Nav and all that stuff. The listed price is $38500 FIRM. Car has had 3 owners (includes the current owner), very well maintained, clear CARFAX, and seems to have been in the same city for the lifespan of the car in a mild climate. The seller is willing to drop the car off at the Porsche dealership for me to get a PPI done. Do you believe that is a fair price?

Yup. That’s a good price.

That's a good price if PPI passes and all maintenance is up to date.

Sounds good! Get the PPI, DME and possibly a scope if you want to be 100% satisfied.

I appreciate the responses! Even though I did the market price research and it’s very competitively priced, a little validation from current owners is better. The PPI is set for Thursday morning at the Porsche dealership...we’ll see. Little nervous about the purchase since it’s a couple of states away and I don’t have “eyes on,” the PPI from Porsche gives me a little peace of mind if all checks out. I’ll pick it up Saturday (I hope).

+1. I have bought 2 cars that were 700 miles away. Get full inspection including boroscope. If everything checks out go there and do final drive/inspection before you buy.

@Audifreak666 Try to see if current owner will scan and send any records he has associated with his ownership of the car. Porsche buyers have a saying in that "you're buying the previous owner as much as you're buying the car."

Did he keep maintenance up to date (time and miles) regular oil changes, used oil analysis, did he buy off brands or skimp on anything, etc???

You know his address by now probably - take a look at his house from Google maps - well kept lawn? - probably a good sign. 3 rusted 924s and a sofa in the front yard ? - run like hell.

He actually gave me the name of the P-Car indie shop he uses. I called them and they emailed me the records in about 10 minutes. The owner before him maintained it at the Porsche dealer in the same city; same dealer doing the PPI, so I will get those records as well with the PPI. Nothing glaring from the records I have received. Oil change every year and a checkup. They actually sent me the result of the PPI they did for him in 2015 before he bought the car :-). One thing noted on the record under “Work needed” was “Has an idler noise”...not sure what that means.

Is it local to you? Some of us may be closer and can do a drive by to give it a quick view.

I really appreciate the offer! Not local. I am in VA, and he’s in SC.

Price definitely seems fair if the car checks out. If it's optioned/spec'd to your liking, could be a good deal.

I bought my 997 sight unseen recently and it was a positive experience. Best of luck!

Yup good price. Actually probably a bit on the low side. Is it 6sp or a tip?

I'd lock it down if its the car you want and the PPI checks out.

Take a look at our 997.1 buyers guide in the sticky posts to know what to look for/ask about during the PPi.

Good look and welcome to the community!

Ps - it didnt happen unless u send pics.

@TheBruce lol...I will definitely send pics. PPI is tomorrow morning, so hopefully all is good (which I think it will be). It is a 6 spd manual, black on black. It’s actually a birthday gift for my wife, not for me.

@s4vant it’s about a 7 hour drive one way. Leaving at 3 in the morning to get there around 9is/10ish on Sat.

I’ve been searching the internet for an explanation on what the “premium package” and an “SE package” consisted of for the 2007 model. Can’t find anything. Does anyone know exactly what those consisted of?

i appreciate all the feedback! I joined this forum a long time ago when I was thinking about a Cayenne. Didn’t end up buying it due to a family emergency. Now I am back, and you all have been awesome with the feedback, thank you!
