Default Battery replacement puzzle 997.1 S

Today I replaced my car's battery with a 94R Duralast Gold item from Autozone. This is supposed to be an exact replacement fit.
However, when I push the new battery all the way to the right (to get its lip under the tray edge) then the hold-down clamp on the left side
does not reach the lip of the battery.

So I needed to move the battery slightly to the left to make the hold down clamp engage, but now the right lip is loose, so that's not great. Puzzling.

Anyone else encountered this problem when dropping a 94R replacement battery into their car?

I have the same battery without issues (H7 size). How much is slightly to the left? There are a few mounting holes for the bracket. But the nut underneath is not always present. Perhaps the previous owner move the nut to an outer hole with a larger battery installed?

If so, pull the battery to get access to the battery tray. Then remove the battery tray to get access to the underside.

Even more puzzling then! It's not a big misfit, but enough to lose engagement with the lip on the right side.
The tray seems all in stock position and I am using the hole with thread for the clamp. The old battery (AAA 94R) that was in the car
seemed to fit fine, but was all caked into place with spilled/leaked discharge, so hard to say. That was the reason
for replacing the battery in the first place.

So you managed to push the battery all the way to the right, and the clamp still reached ?

Yup, fits perfectly. Perhaps the leaking battery caused problems with the tray? Post pictures.

Ok, fortified by your comments I had another go. What I think happened is that some gunk went down the thread when I tried to wash out the spillage with baking soda and water. That didn't allow the bolt on the clamp to engage fully, so I needed to move the battery way over to the left to make it stick. Once I realized this I bought some washers (yours for only $2.99 at AutoZone) and was able to fix the clamp down with the battery in the right place! Thanks!

I've only had the car for a couple of months, but that includes eight track days. Still trying to figure out how to drive a car with the engine behind the rear wheels

I think the clamp that holds the battery down is bolted through a slot to accommodate different battery lengths. You should be able to slide it back and forth before tightening.
