My 997.1 Targa 4S needs new engine mounts. Does anyone have experience to recommend (or not) solid vs. semi-solid engine mounts in a car that is street driven (as opposed to tracked)? Thank you for your input!
My 997.2 is a daily driver and I have semi-sold mounts and they are great. A little more vibration, but unless I told you that you would never know. The cornering is way better too. Well worth the cost. Oh yea they are RSS mounts.
I went with the 964 RS engine mounts. A little more NVH that you can notice idling at a stop light, but the improved feel is worth it. Doesn't both me at all.
Just did mine earlier this week. I wanted to go with semi solid Torque Solution, but the seller never replied to my questions, so I went with genuine Porsche and very happy. In the end, I figured that up here in Canada with our pretty crappy roads, the engine needs all the cushionning possible to take the road's harshness to avoid something else to give instead.
I also did RSS semi solid mounts on my 997.2 s. It’s a daily driver that sees a track every other month. It’s a wonderful upgrade for only a few hundred bucks. Definitely do it. Slight increase in vibration but huge increase in handling

If your use is all street driving, what benefit would non-stock mounts provide? Especially since you will experience increased NVH.

I don't see the benefit.
If entirely street driven, it depends on personal preference. Even on the street, I didn’t like feeling my engine move around (especially noticeable when coming to a full stop). I also prefer the more raw feel l from the mounts (vibration and noise).
Obviously, the biggest gains are felt on the track, but it definitely changes the street driving too. Just depends on the driver if the change is something they’d enjoy
