Thank you for your responses. From a future value perspective, in my mind the 87 wins. From a present enjoyment perspective the 997 wins. I may regret it down the road but I'm leaning towards keeping my 997 and driving it guilt free. I can easily become a victim of multiple P car disorder but unfortunately (fortunately) I don't have the garage space.
My new to me 996 is a wonderful car,, but its not the 69T I had years ago,, its the difference between crawling on to a brand new Japanese 1200+ CC sports bike and a 1980's Ducati.. its about the experience..
The 69 had 12 fuses in the fuse box, I drove it daily 20 miles for about 5 years, cheapest to maintain car I've owned except for a EV I am currently driving the lease out on..
And nothing sings like Webbers or stack mechanical injection at redline.. With a old Bursch exhaust and no cats.. Dang I miss that car..
First off, I do agree that a 997 is much more common place in comparison.
One thing to consider on the Carrera is leg room for the mrs., if she's tall/has long legs she will not be comfortable in the passenger seat for any length of time.
To me it sounds like the 997 is a much better choice for you. You said it perfectly "From a future value perspective, in my mind the 87 wins. From a present enjoyment perspective the 997 wins". We are living the present, and presently you have a 997.
