Looking at 997 turbo.... questions.
So, like the title says, I’m looking at a 2009 997 turbo. It’s an auto. But I think it’s pre PDK. I know PDK came out in 09 but did all of them have it? If it’s not a PDK, is there anything I should be worried about with it? Has about 65k on the odometer. Any help appreciated. Thank you in advance.

The guys over on the 997 turbo boards can help. I can tell you that the 2009 turbo does not have the PDK gearbox, it has Tiptronic. The Tiptronic unit is actually very good, it simply doesn’t shift as quickly as PDK. Many people find the 2009 cars to be desirable because they are a ‘tweener car between 997.1 and 997.2. They are technically 997.1, but they have the minor improvements from the 997.2 on the interior. Most notably, they have the PCM 3.0 infotainment system. This was a bigger deal in 2009 than it is now, as it’s outdated at this point. In any case, if you like the car, then you shouln’t rule it out because it’s not PDK. These are very good cars, and the performance is outstanding.

I have the 2009 Turbo with the Tiptronics but I have had it in all my Porsches 2000 Boxster, 2006 Cayenne and now the 2009. since I have never driven a PDK I do not have something to compare it by. But that said I like my Tiptronics in the Boxster and the Cayenne better as I was able to use the gear shift **** to shift but in the 09 just the thumb buttons on the steering wheel. I also bought mine with 67000 on the clock have put about 6000 on mine love it.

I'm a Porsche noob, a year and half into a 2009 C2 6MT. Never driven a Turbo or Tip, but have to say it'd be a great buy if the prospect car has been maintained and it fits your budget. Everything I've read tells me Porsche selected the Tip transmission for a reason, and that it suits the performance of the car. I'd love to have one.

I drove a 2009 turbo with Tip before I bought my C2S with PDK. The NA engine really benefits from the PDK shifting and 7 gears. The turbo doesn't need it. It's plenty entertaining without it. I would have bought the turbo tip in a heartbeat if it wasn't $20k above my budget.

Damn, that's a hard choice. I really like the 991, too. If I was being more practical, I'd probably have to go with that because of lower future maintenance requirements. But an 09 turbo kicks ***!

I too was on a budget when looking for my car but once I drove a Turbo I knew I wanted one, Mine has about the same mileage as you are talking about and did give me some concerns but after a year and half and 6000 miles does not bother me a bit.

I've driven a 996 Turbo Tip with upgrades and it was plenty entertaining. Shifts aren't as quick / smooth as PDK but I believe the Tip can handle a good deal of horsepower upgrades.
With turbo, you'll have more stuff going on which can go wrong so the maintenance costs will always be higher than a NA but otherwise, I don't think there is anything further increased by mileage. I believe you're getting the last of the Metzger engines so that's good in avoiding the issues around IMS/RMS/bore scoring.

If I had been on this site I doubt I would of ever bought a Porsche. But so far they have been the most fun and I do not even think about another brand. Ok that not totally true I look at Ferrari's and drool but have been told by people in the know that the Turbo Porsche is a drivers car.
are you planning daily driving this car I drive mine every Friday to work and joined the PCA and have done 3 tours my wife is having just as much fun as I.
