The porsche RTS is the best set of bars I've ever had on a car. Very easy to install and remove and very sturdy. Worth the price IMO. Maybe not as quiet as the wispbar set on my old Acura RL, but that car had alot of sound deadening tech and the roof had to have holes drilled and permanent pads installed.
Add the Yakima 40" wind fairing and you will cut down even more wind noise especially above 35mph. All roof boxes are loud and above 75mph, there is no avoiding it.
I use a version of Yakima's skybox with a 24" width to allow room for a bike rack at the same time. I never liked it's height, but it fits my long skis and met my width restriction. And it is now available in a low profile version which is what I would buy now. If you are looking at a narrower option, that would be the one I would go with.
cwheeler - Well done, and very nice. Can you tell us more about this Thule setup? (perhaps even providing part numbers?) It looks like this aftermarket setup takes advantage of the OEM roof mount holes. Secondly, it seems as though the rear towers are slightly taller and appropriately angled to accommodate the sloping roof, which seems to the first aftermarket setup that addresses the issue. Did you buy the setup off the shelf as you pictured? or was there some customization on your part?
-Thanks

It's the same kits as the factory bars. Guy on eBay sells the kits. Search for 997 roof rack. He posts only one or two kits at a time. Always the same pricing. The rear mounts are XL to accommodate the sloping roofline. I used the bars and mounts as they came, fit perfect. The inno box was purchased of Amazon. This far it has worked well, although, a more sturdy lid would be preferred, but there have been no issues.
I saw Sam's car (991) up close when I worked with him on his US tour. That Thule roof box is perfect for the 911.
I'm still considering it for my 911 because it would have to work for my Audi Allroad as well.
This pic was taken with my OEM wheels at the time.
