Can't Believe I Walked Away From A 993 Trade
Friend of mine has been bugging me to trade my 997C4S + some cash for his very nice 993 coupe.
I've been missing my 993 and was seriously considering it but I just like my 997C4S too much and bailed on the idea. He wound up selling his car last week.
I just find the 997C4S lines so much more appealing.

Wide body 997’s are a great looking car. Saw mine being driven today for the first time and it broke my neck lol. Anyway, I would’ve done the same. I’ve never owned an air cooled 911 but it is a goal of mine to have one. It would have to be in addition to my GTS though, and hopefully a 964.

I can see why you might hesitate, but every time I see a 993 I wish I was driving it, they just look and sound so much better than the 997. Automobile magazine recently did a feature on the 993 C4S body styling (including interior), that says a lot about a design 20+ years old.

No doubt the 993 is a looker and the air cooled sound is super cool. It's got a classic cool vibe too, but I have to say... When I let good friends drive my 997 C4S and I follow in a chase car... Damn it looks great and I don't even see or think about 993's.
I have had a wild hair to add a 993 to the garage for a long time, but I also know these are 20+ year old "classic" cars now and with that comes a whole lot of unknown maintenance that is creeping up and can be very expensive. Add to that the rediculous mark up on these over the last few years and it makes for a tough decision to jump in to that pond...
One thing Groovzilla has over most of us is 30+ years of experience with 30+ different air cooled porsches of every generation. If he is not willing to trade his 997 C4S in for a nice 993 then that is really saying something.
I have also noticed a popular youtuber that has a 993 C4S and 997.2 C4S. He is a 993 diehard for sure, but you can easily see in his latest vids that he is seeing the light and is smitten with his recently acquired 997.2. Hardly mentions the 993 lately.
As I said, I would love to add a 993 to the garage some day, but I would never give up my 997 to replace it with a 993.

A 993 is great ride to have but would have to be in addition to my 997 4s..... I too also like that car way too much to give it up unless it is to subsidize my gt3

Thanks qikqbn - I've owned 2 993's back in the early 2000's - First was a 1996 C4 and then a couple years later sold that and bought a 1995 C2.
Both cars were Polar Silver w/Black interiors - Arctic Silver was only available in 1997-98
Unfortunately like many Porsche models with model related issues, all 993 models are prone to clogged air passages in the heads which results in a CEL.
The 1996-1998 are OBD11 so if the air passages get clogged and they throw the CEL, when they are plugged in for emission testing they FAIL. Only remedy to to have the head rebuilt. Or try the many different methods of trying to dig out the carbon stuck in the head's air passages by using all sorts of techniques - I think the only remedy that was partially successful was to use bass guitar strings attached to a drill. Also another member made an electronic device that plugged in under the drivers seat which fooled the sensors when the OBD11 was plugged in. It's been a long time and I forget whether that solved the problem on the short term.
The 1995 models are OBD1 and the emissions readings are taken by sticking the rod in the exhaust pipe method like the old days - So if the CEL light comes on it will still pass emissions which is why I sold the 1996 and went to the 95 model. The 1996 never threw a CEL but at 60K miles I figured I was on borrowed time.
They are fun cars and have a nice design but I still think the 997C4S is a much nicer modern design - Just has really grown on me.

I've owned a number of 911s including two 993s. The 993 is a great car and I would own one again, but not sure I would trade my 997.2 C2S plus cash for one.
As Groovzilla's signature says... I wish I kept them all.

I've had a 993TT for going on 10 years and sold my 997TT after 4 years. The 993 is just so much more special. The 997 is way faster and drives better, but it cannot match the character of the 993.

I get that the design of the 997 has cues from the 993 era, but man in that side by side photo you really see how great the lines on the 993 are. The mirror design alone on the 993 is timeless.
