Default AWD controller oil for 997.1

Hi guys,

New owner and first post. First off, thanks for all of the great content on this site, it's awesome.

Looking to do my first gear oil change on my 4S manual and I have received some conflicting info from forums, indy garage and dealer.

I have read a few posts that have specified this part number for the gear oil: 00004330549 whereas they spec. a different oil for the AWD controller (wet clutch) 00004330540

Looks like the second oil has lower viscosity and has been formulated specifically for that assembly.

The indy garage and dealer are telling me that the same oil 00004330549 is used in the transmission, diff and the awd crontroller and that the different awd oil is not even spec'd or in the parts list for the 997.1.

Is it possible that this oil is only to be used in a 997.2 or later as the controller changed?

Appreciate and thank you for your time.

Yes, the 997.2 carrera and the 997.1 turbo have a different AWD drive system than the 997.1 and 996 series carreras. The .2 and the .1 turbos have two oils that need to be changed. The 997.1 carrera takes one oil (PTX, same as the transaxle) in the diff, I believe it's just over 1L.

(If I'm wrong, someone please correct me).

As someone noted, you need to use the mobil ptx in the rear transaxle and front diff for a 997.1 4s. About 3quarts in the rear and 1quart in the front.

The 0549 part number he mentioned is the correct part. The 997 parts diagrams have updated the PTX to the 0549

I have 2008 C4s and need to change all three fluids too.

1. Manual Transmission
2. Front Differential
3. AWD controller

From what I have read the original Porsche transmission fluid was 999-917-546-00 which is now superseded by 000-043-305-49. Many people on the forums say that the new Porsche fluid (000-043-305-49) is the Mobil 1 Mobilube PTX 75W-90 that people get at suncoast. So looks like I can use either the Mobil PTX fluid or the Porsche Fluid 00004330549 for the manual transmission and front differential.

But does the AWD use the same fluid as the transmission?

The Porsche fluid 000.043.305.40 is for the AWD controller fluid for the turbo and 2009 + Model years . But is there a specific fluid for the AWD controller in 2008 model years and earlier ?

Thanks

Did you ever solve this mystery? I have the same exact question

I purchased 5 qts of the Porsche fluid (000-043-305-49) which I believe is the Mobil 1 Mobilube PTX 75W-90. From my understanding this is what is required in the front differential/awd in the 2008 and older 997.1 CS4. The 000-043-305-49 fluid is also the updated fluid for the transmission.

I have not had an issue since I changed to this fluid (000-043-305-49)in the manual transmission & the front differential in 2019.

hope this helps.

What did you end up using for the AWD controller? Appreciate the reply.

The Front Differential on the 2008 and older 997 use a viscous clutch which is the AWD system. 2009 and newer I believe use an electrical style clutch... I think 2008 Turbos use this newer electrical clutch too.

See below the pictures... fluid for front Diff is the MOBILUBE PTX 75W90 - part number below is for the 20 liter so the part number 000-043-305-49 is for the Mobil 1 Mobilube PTX 75W-90 and this is the updated fluid for the transmission too.

Diagram 2 below... item #1 is the fill bolt/screw and item #9 is the drain bolt/screw which doesn't need a crush waster.

I hope this clears up your questions. I ordered 5 bottles (5 liters) of the 000-043-305-49 and changed both the manual transmission and front differential and had about 1/2 liter left... but I did spill some.
