$56,500 low, haha. In 2017/2018, this car was at best a $45k car and perhaps lower if prior damage of any kind. Not a good sign if a car like this hits anything above $55k or $60k. Currency issue because these base cars are not even remotely worth that price under healthy economic conditions. Speachless on the price on that 997.1 4S cabriolet. Some huge underlying issues driving that ship as these cars are NOT remotely worth that price with a healthy dollar.

I couldn’t believe that C4s went for 50k. What is happening? There is one on eBay right now I might buy just to put it on BaT.
$56,500 low, haha. In 2017/2018, this car was at best a $45k car and perhaps lower if prior damage of any kind. Not a good sign if a car like this hits anything above $55k or $60k. Currency issue because these base cars are not even remotely worth that price under healthy economic conditions. Speachless on the price on that 997.1 4S cabriolet. Some huge underlying issues driving that ship as these cars are NOT remotely worth that price with a healthy dollar.

I know the thesis of a less strong dollar was likely one of the factors you considered as part of the decision to move out of the country. That may very well wind up being the case, but I am not sure the 997 market is necessarily a data point that supports the thesis. An alternative explanation is that we have unparalleled wealth concentration in this country and some of those people who benefit from the wealth concentration want to buy 997s. Why not? They have the disposable income which they likely earned in some form or fashion. Why not spend it how you want to? My gut is that supply/demand imbalances in this super niche market explain more of the price dynamics than any real macro trend, aside from the concentration of wealth that enables some folks to have a lot more disposable income than others.
In the end you may be spot on w/ your analysis, but the dynamics of the 6MT 997 market are not likely an important data point that can be used to either prove or disprove your hypothesis.
glad I got in when I did though and I am pretty sure a lot people feel that way about whichever 997 they currently own, especially if it is a 6MT.
