997.1 year + mileage = value
Gents, here's what I mean.
To your knowledge, is a 2006 C2 cab 5sp sport chrono with 20000 miles worth $10G more than a 2008 C2 cab 5sp with 67000 miles without sport chrono????
just trying to evaluate the impact of mileage on the value of a 997.
Year is one thing, but when you throw in the mileage in the equation on similarly equiped vehicles, where does the balance tip???

One car has 47k more miles and that impacts wearables.
As for value, ownership and service history and west vs east cars make a huge difference if driven year round.
I do think that higher mi cars will have fewer buyers thus impacting value.
Great question.

A lot of people use these cars about 5k miles/yr. In my estimation 50k miles is the difference in 10yr ownership period. There is little mechanical difference between an 06 and an 08 so mileage for me is the big issue. YMMV!

I wouldn't buy a worn-out looking car, period. I would buy an 80,000 mile car that has been wrapped from day one and looks to be in great shape! As most of us are pretty OCD when it comes to our cars, these examples are not hard to find.

totally agree. A dealership will agree too.

With that said, I would do a more invasive PPI on the 06 if there are no service records. But at 20k miles, there arent going to be a lot of records. Water pump, coolant res and coil packs are on the docket due to age.

Dunno about the 997.
But back in late 2016, I reckoned the effect of mileage on the asking price of a 997.2 was $0.18/mile (as a very rough approximation) with everything else being equal.

I am biased as I own a 2008.
A 13 year old car with 20K miles is ok as long as it has been serviced extensively. I have seen some very low mileage cars with very minimal servicing. Also, there are some differences in the 2006 vs 2008. The HVAC control ***** are not subject to the sticky mess of the 2006. The starter wiring harness in the 2006 is a bit more problematic. All minor stuff but still stuff.
An 11 year old car that has miles but superb service history and is $20K less...…..I know where my vote would be.

Why would a 20k car have an extensive service history? I bought my '05 three years ago with 17k miles. It had a service history that amounted to annual check-ups. 12 oil and fluid changes, and some miscellaneous dealership add-ons. Hardly extensive, but I'd consider it an appropriate service history. Now at 27k, my 9k miles, I have upgraded/ modded many things, but the only extensiving of the service history I have added would be 3 oil and fluid services, tires, sway bar bushings, and scheduled maintenance. Which at 27k miles, still isn't much.
I'm may do water-pump, coolant expansion tank, plugs and coils, but only as a pre-emptive measure to satisfy my OCD. Nothing is indicating they need to be changed.
I'd understand the desire for an extensive service history above 80k miles, maybe, but at 20k miles, I'd be more interested in general condition and appearance of the car. I think an extensive service history would almost indicate a car to stay away from. As it may have either been beat on, or is/was full of factory defects, or both.
These aren't Buggatis, and they're not museum pieces, or investment vehicles (this is the 997 forum , not turbo, gt2, 3 or RS) I think expecting an extensive service history for a 20k mile 997 is kind of silly.

I think both are priced accurately. Maybe the low mileage one should be $7,500 more rather than $10,000 more. I, for one, am one of the guys that prefers to not have the sport Chrono option on a MT car, especially if it has PSE.
BTW, the 997s are 6 speed cars, rather than 5 speed, but we know what you mean.
