I've tried searching all the way back to threads from 2014 but can't seem to find the answer to this. For 997.2 PSE, is it just on/off via the button or does PSE also open the valve under other conditions (even with PSE off) such as sport mode, sport +, above a certain RPM, or a combination of.

The way I understand it is:

PSE off: valves stay shut but may open at high rev range.
PSE on: Valves blip open at startup but then close again at idle, they then reopen at around 4k .

I have PSE but have disabled it so the valves are always open at every rev range. I'm sure I'll be pulled over at some point due to the revised CA exhaust law

 

I have PSE + SW bypass. Exhaust volume is far too low to be pulled over so I think you're fine.

Regarding PSE off & opening at a higher RPM, that was my suspicion. The reason I'm asking is I'm thinking about converting to a GT3 center muffler and use the existing PSE vacuum line to control the valves for the 2 inlets. It will be custom so fitment isn't an issue

 

PSE + Sport mode = burpple, burp, burrrrp . . . . love it everytime

 

 

That was my impression as well. I get the slightest burble on decel at around 3k rpms but you have to try hard to hear it and that's with PSE on and a center bypass. I wish there was more burble.

 

I only took mine for a quick drive but I swear (could be a placebo) that with PSE always on, as in unplugged and the flaps always open you get more burble.

 

I'm not totally certain about when it is open and closed, but I did at one point discover that it you put the car in neutral and release the clutch, it closes the PSE valves. It does seem a little quieter in speeds from 19-48mph, but does not sound totally closed.

 

The activated PSE on our Carrera doesn't burple as much as the PSE on our 13 Cayenne GTS. Actually I want to say my Carrera PSE doesn't burple at all. A bit disappointed.

 

If you want more sound, switch to an aftermarket exhaust that has the valved operation, and tie it into the PSE control system. That's what I have on my .1 with Fabspeed Valvetronic exhaust and it's awesome.

 

Why you planning to go from SW bypass to GT3 center muffler ? Not heard any sound clips with this combo. Better sound ? more power ?
