What to get? 2007 c2 aero kit? 06 c2s? 01 turbo?
Hello all,
Im looking at purchasing my first p car!
It is between a super clean 2007 c2 with factory aero kit and 30k miles... It looks beautiful but does that help with the value later on for resale?
Is it that rare an option?
I know this doesn’t matter because it is gorgeous for me to look at but does the “poser” factor mean purists like the folks here would not pay extra for it on resale?
Im comparing it to an 06 c2s with 62k miles, non aero kit for 8k less?
OR
01 996 turbo with 29k for same money as c2 aero?
Which could have have the highest potential resale later on?
tough choices to make! I need this community’s help!
thank you in advance!

1. 996 turbo... interior is dated and exterior turns a lot of people off, but there will always be a market for any 911 turbo.
2. 06 C2S... C2S is always preferable to the base model.
3. 07 C2.... base model with lots of bling; likely to turn off more buyers than it attracts; you certainly wouldn't pay extra for it.

Since when is factory aero considered poser or bling? Because it’s on a C2???

Bling may be the wrong word. Add-on would be better. Bone stock is what attracts the most buyers. But, you do bring up an interesting point... is an aero kit appropriate on a 12 year old base C2 or does it just seem like a poser? I have always favored leaving cosmetics alone. They never age well.

Number 1: if you're buying a car concerned about resale value, don't buy a run of the mill 997, which includes C2, C2S, C4, C4S. They will depreciate. If you want to maintain resale value, buy a garage queen with low miles and dont drive it.
Number 2: factory parts are factory parts. Aero is sought after, and people pay more for factory optioned rather than added on later but it either enhances value or keeps it stable, unless for some reason poorly installed.
Number 3: there's nothing wrong with a base C2, which has slightly smaller engine, slightly smaller brakes, and no PASM (standard) compared to the "S" version. Those differences mean it's not appropriate for aero? It's still a 911.

i know this is just one opinion and all that should matter is what the owner thinks, but he does make some good points.
It’s not as egregious as these but....

Factory Aerokit is not a common option and is rare. It all depends on the buyer, but I can tell you I just picked up a 06 C2S and the reason I grabbed it is a factory aero kit car and I was willing to pay a premium for it because of that fact. The option is not poser. Remember that the factory aero kit existing on the 997 prior to being added to the GT3 where it was enhanced with the rear air scoops and the extra lip on the back of the bottom of the spoiler. Does the car have any other unique options on it that make it more worthwhile?

This just goes to show that if you leave a Porsche in completely stock condition, no potential buyer will ever fault you for it. But, as soon as you start changing it, you get some people who won't like it, like me.

I had unsolicited offers for more than what I bought my 997 for only after I changed the look from stock. It goes both ways.

I like big wings and I cannot lie...if you like factory aero, which I do, buy it. Rare and will help resale, or won't hurt, because market is smaller, but those that want it will come for it. Plus half the miles of the C2S you mentioned, which is worth something, other things equal. A little extra HP is overrated on the street.

I bought an 08 with factory aero. Honestly, I wasn't familiar with it on anything other than a GT3. I couldn't let the car out of my sight before I put a deposit on it. The 997.1 with aero is a beautiful car.
While I will mod mine, engine , suspension, etc, I will keep all original parts, and the exterior and aero kit won't change!

Forget about the 06 with 62k miles
People will pay a premium for a factory aero kit , bottom line they are just a gorgeous looking cars and not a whole lot of them floating around. An additional 8 grand is not that much more to pay for a car that's a year newer, has the aero kit, & has roughly 30k less miles . Also for people that love the look of the 997 gt3's but aren't exactly going to be driving at 9/10s on the track a well optioned aero kit car for 60k less is the answer . . . As far as the 01 turbo , if your into modding and going faster in a straight line and that's your primary concern go with it . If you care more about ascetics , comfort , having rwd 911 handling and pretty much anything else go with the 997s . The 01 probably will hold its value best in the long run , however it is the least desirable year of the least desirable generation of turbo's . . . Most will agree the 996 is least attractive generation by far .... Just my opinion for why's its worth ... Which might not be much lol

I guess I am also pretty biased & I'm sure any 996 turbo owner will argue the merits of the car like awd , mezger engine , bang for the buck , etc .. Bottom line they are both porsche's meaning they are both going to be incredible. Go more with what you like and don't be as concerned with resale . As long as you buy it right and don't kill it with miles you won't get too hurt .

The 996TT would probably hold it's value the best and be the best performer, but would still be 3rd on my list. I just can't warm up to the straight sides, crummy interior, and front lights. If others can overlook those in the spirit of performance, good for them as they're a great value.
I'm a fan of factory aero, but also of the S cars (better low end torque and PASM) so a decision to be made between those 2. With factory aero, it's the rear wing that is a little polarizing. The front aero kit bumper is awesome though, so you could always change the rear decklid to something you like better (duck tail, OEM regular one, etc) and keep the aero decklid to put back on for resale of you don't personally like it.
Full leather is also a consideration for me if one of those 2 has it and the other doesn't.
