Default Sport Chrono

I had a chance to test drive a 997.1 cs2 6MT with sports chrono which I believe adds the sport button. When I activated the sport button the car really came to life. My question is, will a cs2 without SC have throttle mapping similar to a cs2 with SC being activated or off? I have read a lot about the need to have SC on a car equipped with an AT, so I didn’t think I would need the SC. However, the cs2 I dove was very vanilla in regards to its throttle response until I put it in sport mode. If a cs2 without SC drives like a cs2 equipped with SC that is not activated, than SC will be a must have option for me.

Any comments on SC is appreciated.

The sport button and software can be added after purchase, from Suncoastparts if you find a car you love but it is missing the software. You will get the throttle mapping but not the timer wart.

The default throttle mapping is the same as having the button turned off.

Sport button does several things:
1) changes throttle map
2) activates PSE if equipped. LOVE that burble.
3) Sets PASM to sport mode, if equipped.
4) changes the threshold of PSM intervention, away from driving stability and more towards "agility and driving dynamics".
5) Alters RPM limiter from a soft cut to a hard limiter
6) changes shiftpoints for an auto, speed of shifting etc.
7) "Dash pot" closes less smoothly, allowing the throttle body to close faster, heightened engine response.

PSM data:

In my car, changes it from a cruiser to a sports car. Love that button.

How difficult would it be to add the software and sport button from Suncoast? Is it a DIY project? Any idea on the price? My M3 as a similar sport button that changes the throttle mapping. The car just feels lazy without it on. The cs2 I drove felt the same way. They should really map the car so it runs like the sport button is always on. Does SC also do throttle blipping on the the MT cars?

The auto blip starts in the 991.1 and 981 generation cars.

Cost is under a grand. Requires disassembly of the center console a bit, not terrible. There are diy’s around that will show the process of you want to check first if you can do it yourself.

I had the same interest pghpp70 as my 07 C4S does not have SC. Some on here said it was not worth putting while others disagreed. Most said not having the "wart" was a plus as the dash remains clean. I tend to agree with that!
Still considering adding the SC though.
Good luck and if you go ahead with it let me know how it goes.

THe sport button and everything that goes with it is most definitely worth it. The SC itself? Nope.

For clarity. For a manual car without sports exhaust or pasm then for a grand I get to press the gas pedal a bit more softly to achieve the exact same result?

It also changes the dynamics of abs and traction control.

I get that, but I read people calling the car lethargic and not peppy and a cruiser etc. Dont think that has much to do with abs and psm.

As a data point, I had sc on the prior car and I hardly ever turned it on. I don't have it on this one and don't miss it one bit.

If it did more I'd consider adding it in.

If SC does allow the throttle bodies to close quicker it means the car will feel/be more responsive.

The sport button really changes the engine dynamics. For eg, I cannot heel and toe the car without sport mode on.

Having driven a new cayman with and without sport plus, I noticed sport plus is a must have. Is the difference similar with the 997s and the sport button?

I use the sport button for the PSE. I wish the separate PSE button was present, because for around town driving, I find the sport throttle changes too touchy and just annoying. I do like it on the backroads but still nothing special.
