Hi folks ! I am soon to be joining the ranks of 997 owners ! Signed the papers and will be picking up my car after coming back from a Florida vacation. It's a 2009 C4S cabriolet- ruby red with sand beige full leather. Had a PPI done by a long term indy Porsche mechanic, and he gave it a clean bill of health. Very clean and well maintained . I had wanted something in an uncommon color, and I love the ruby red metallic. I'll post pics when I get the car.
I am a Porsche rookie, so please go easy on me . I'm up there in years , but have pretty much always had a 2 seater sports car in the garage. Started with a used MGB , then a new 240Z back in the 70's . Took a break for awhile when I got married, then got a couple of 560SL's ( one at a time ) , and most recently had a new ( 2011 ) BMW Z4 roadster.for the last 8 years. I guess I'm coming more from the " cruiser " backround rather than the performance or track side. .I've learned a lot from this forum and have been lurking for over a year while looking for a 997 . Now I'm taking the plunge !
I'm sure I will be asking some beginner type questions, starting with a couple today...
The previous owner had 2 sets of wheels. He changed the factory 19's to 20's , and the 20's are on the car now. I believe they are Avant Garde Ruger Mesh : they look great, and tire tread
left is excellent. The 19's , which I will also get with the sale, are the original factory Carrera II , and the tread is supposed to be good ( I have not seen them ). I know from the forum that the ride should be smoother with the 19's, but I'm thinking of leaving the 20's on until I get used to the car and can make a better determination. Do you think it will be a major difference in ride between the 2 ? From pics, and seeing the 20's on the car , I do like the look of the 20's. My use will probably still be more " cruising " , if that makes any difference, and I'm in the Northeast ( RI ) .
Maybe I'll just stick with the one question for now...
I'm looking forward to being an active forum member- I've got a lot to learn !

Congrats and welcome. I think 20s are too big for the 997, but that's just personal preference.

Congratulations. I doubt you'll go back to some other BMW or whatever once you get some seat time in the 997. It's an addictive package (in a good way). As for the difference between 19" wheels and 20", aside from looks which is subjective, I never had 20's on any of my 997's but I rode in a friend's 997 with 20" wheels and I couldn't tell the difference in ride quality. A 997 will ride firm no matter how you set it up so the difference between 19" and 20" wheels will be a difference so slight as to be negligible in my opinion. If you like the 20's, leave them on there.

OK, now I'm officially a 997 owner ! Got back from an extended Florida vacation, and picked up my 997 on Tuesday . Had a big break in the weather, and decided to drive the car back from the dealer , since it was in the high 50's., rather than flatbed the delivery . Had to go about 90 miles, but all highway, and the car handled perfect. Got it registered, state inspected, etc, so I am now ready to enjoy it. Of course, winter weather is returning, so it will probably stay in the garage for a good percent of time over the next couple months.
Enclosed is first pic ; I definitely like the ruby red , and there is not a scratch or blemish on exterior or interior . Hopefully I can keep it this way.
Looking forward to participating in the forum . I have already learned a lot from reading it over the last year.

Looks great. That is my favorite color combination. Welcome to the insanity.
