I have an '05 that is a Dec. 2004 build and it's the earlier motor. The car had 20k miles when I bought it and it was like a new car other than some rock chips on the front end.

Like the OP, all the internet chatter about the IMS issue had me a little paranoid. I decided to go ahead and do the LN Engineering IMS replacement which set me back about $3k. Maybe I didn't need to do the IMS replacement, but the peace of mind was worth it to me. I plan on keeping the car for a long time so $3k over the years I'm going to own it makes it less of an issue.

IMO, just do whatever makes you comfortable and just go drive the car.
