Default Porsche Battery Charger Maintainer plug in location

I recently purchased a 997.2, and it came with the Porsche branded battery maintainer/charger with a lighter plug. What is the preferred location where it should be plugged in?....and should I just run the cable out the window (leaving it slightly open)? Interestingly enough it appears to the same as a CTEK branded charger I used to recharge an AGM battery for a race car.

thanks for any ideas

i plug mine into the console/ashtray cig lighter and run the cord out the bottom of the driver door. Been doing it that way for 5 years, no issues.

Whilst reading the manual, it seemed to imply that only the pump should be plugged into the lighter...and nothing for any length of time...

thanks for the suggestion

I use the passenger foot well plug and run the wire out under the door and yeah, the chargers are all pretty much the same.

Are you talking about the air compressor or the battery tender?

Since I have several tenders with alligator clamps, is it fine to just attach to batterey like usual and leave front hood down but not shut completely? Will the light in the front storage compartment go out with lid down but not slammed shut completely? Thanks

That will leave your frunk light on until it times out due to load - not the best idea.

Console plug with cord out under the door.

Attaching charger directly to battery works just fine. Light will go out after about 2 hours but if you arm the alarm, light will go out in about 20 minutes. Not enough load on the battery to worry about. With regard to the compressor your statement should read "the pump should only be plugged in the cigarette lighter" not "only the pump should be plugged in the cigarette lighter".

Here is a recent thread on the topic.

Per that thread, i adapt my porsche charger to a CTEK (56-382) using a CTEK (56-573) Comfort Connect Cig Socket and place the 56-382 under the hood near the windshield wipers. This config permits easy access for both charging and checking charge level:

Of course, I could just use my regular CTEK (non Porsche) and use the battery clamps if I was to place it under the hood.

I had a bad experience when I left my car (997.1) plugged into the cig. lighter. When I returned home the battery was flat, the C-tek was fried and the cig. lighter was gone. The C-tek was replaced under warranty and I switched to direct ring connectors to the battery posts and leave it attached permanently, like max540i. I leave the charger in the frunk and whenever I put the car away, even for a few days, I plug it in. I leave the frunk down but not latched and the light is no issue compared to all the other stuff running and drawing while not in use. I've been doing this for 4 years now.

2009 C2S 128K miles

I did exactly what Max did.... CTEK (which is the Porsche unit as I understand) .... I hung the cable down from my garage door motor. I lashed the charger unit to the side of the garage door motor mount and plugged it in to the electrical socket on the ceiling. The dangling cable does double-duty as my parking stop... when it touches my windshield, I am in far enough.

CTEK makes a harness that bolts to the battery cables... no clips. I also installed the same on the wife's car....

Peace
