What is this thing on the intake - 997.1 engine
What is the vertical piece with the two screws holding it down on the intake (circled in yellow)? This is a 997.1 car engine bay.

Hmm. Mine doesn't have that. Looks like some sort of mounting bracket.

I've never seen that either. Looks like an add-on from a PO for something since removed.

I just looked at mine and a few others on-line and don't see that bracket. I will say it looks OEM since's it's riveted in place but I can't imagine what that bracket would hold....I'm curious now....

Do you have a valved exhaust, like PSE? There are aftermarket controllers that let you change the behavior of those to lock them into certain modes instead of having the DME regulate them. Maybe he mounted a control box for that there, or maybe he had an exhaust like that but converted back to stock before selling the car.
Could have also been a mount for a radar or laser system control box that was mounted under the bumper or some type of additional gauge sensor.
Tough to know since whatever was slid onto it is no longer there.
