Default Easiest way to clear Check Engine? - Nova Scotia

My 997.2 kicked out a check engine light this week (p0175 and 172). The dealer told me 6 months ago that my MAF was likely failing because of another code... I just ordered a new MAF due in on Friday.
Once I replace it (already did a trial run)... how do I reset the code so I can see if it fixed the problem? I have a Chinesium OBD2 reader, that will read the code and pretend to clear them - but it does nothing. Does anyone have success with a specific cheapo model (preferably that Amazon stocks)...

I know this topic is beaten to death on the site (durametric, Foxwell, etc..) - but I haven't seen anything on the success of "regular" OBD2 readers can clear 997.2 codes etc..

I am not stoked on going to the dealer, because I don't want to pay for it, and maybe it isn't the problem (so would have to return and pay again...urg). I would like one of the Foxwell devices... but I can't get it here for a few weeks and I want to know if the problem is fixed right away.

Do I have options other than the dealer?

For the Canadians - does Canadian tire sell something that will help me out cheaply (that is in stock somewhere) is just my OBD2 reader is too crappy, and normally a good one should be able to clear the codes? Do I have to bite the bullet on Durametric or Foxwell and wait a month? Can anyone around Halifax sort me out until I can order one?

thanks!

Tom

Most of the larger auto parts stores will reset codes for free. If that fails try any mechanic. If the code is related to the MAF sensor they should be able to reset it with a generic scanner.

RE: the bluetooth $10 dollar device... I kind of have one already. I bought a 15 dollar wired reader, and it does nothing to clear the code. Is that the reader or the car? If the reader, I will amazon my self a bluetooth one, as my work just gave me a galaxy S8 last week...so I can get the app.. as long as the bluetooth device works.

any specific device you recommend?

I bought one its called Bluedriver. Though I haven't used it on the 997.2 to clear codes, I was able to do it on my friend's 2007 Range Rover Sport. It's about $99.00

The CrappyTire ODB2 reader I have didn't do anything to reset my codes either, even though the unit kept saying "cleared successfully".

I ended up pulling the battery -ve terminal for a few minutes, and that did the trick.

..I tried the battery too -but only did it for 30 seconds... maybe I was a bit too cautious? I should let it for for 5 mins or so?

ok... am I crazy? just pulled the battery for 5 minutes - timed on my iPhone.... hooked it back up -inserted key, and after seeing all the PASM, PSA blah blag problems, engine light is still on (same messaging - visit shop)! the codes weren't cleared. I didn't start the car, so it didn't have the problem again.

in a bit more detail: 2010 c4S, manual .. do I have an undead car? the clock was hammered, but not the faults.

anyone offer me anything else? MAF arrives tomorrow by FedEx, and I got an OBD bluetooth dongle showing up Monday.. but really want to clear this out after getting the MAF in.

I used a cheap ODB1 reader on my 997.1 and got a P0300 fault. I erased the fault and the check engine light went away immediately which surprised me cause that normally does not happen on my C230.
