Default Creaking in steering

2007 C4S. 45,000 miles. Stuck in traffic yesterday on freeway. Spent a good hour at 25 miles per hounor less. Noticed that with just a slight movement of the steering wheel I would get a sort of creaking sound. Very consistent with movement in either direction. Sound coming from ahead of dashboard.

Wonder if anyone else has had this issue? Is there a steering component, a gear of some sort ahead of the dashboard that is subject to wear?

I’m dealing with this at the moment although I had a clicking sound as well. Changed the control arms, doing the mounts and bearings next. Control arm change fixed the clicking but I still hear slight noises on bumps so top mounts and bearing are next.

2009 C2S 125K miles

In the "old" days of the early 2000s, the dealer said this came from the strut bearings and would replace them as a courtesy. I just got a bad case of it 6 months ago.... when I put my summer tires on this past spring, I shot a ton of silicone in there all at the top of the shock and mount. Just blasted it. No creaking since.

Peace
