If QUIET and street driving is most important, Bridgestone S04 is the best tire for you... many compare brand new tires versus old ones they took off and say they're quieter and better, which is not a surprise at all... but from anecdotes, and tire reviews of brand new tires, S04 seems to be the best for your applications, if you tracked, MPSS or Nitto, but for you S04 is definitely the right choice!
The S04 tire is a great tire but it is pretty long in the tooth. Its been around for years now. The S04 competed with the PSS and in reviews the PSS was a quieter tire with more grip...
Again, nothing wrong with the S04 and its not a loud tire but it wouldnt be fair to tell people it is "the" tire to get if you want a quiet tire and that the MPS4S would somehow be a better tire only if you wanted a track tire. The MPS4S is also a more quiet tire and a more capable tire.
I still think S04, or Extreme Contact are best for the OP. I have MPSS but I track, if I made my car a daily and cared more about ride, would pick either of those two which are also $200-300 cheaper!

ok as long as you're aware the old mpss actually rates better in both noise comfort and ride comfort than the s04 and the mps4s is even better than the pss.
They were $150-$250 cheaper per tire; I'm not tracking; I hear S04's are decent for mileage and I only got 12,000km out of the MPSS; and tbh the MPSS are already way too loud - the S04's can't be worse.

The price difference between the S04 and the MPS4S for an entire set if $200 right now. When you factor in the mileage warranty on the old MPSS and the new MPS4S its actually cheaper to buy the MPS4S
The s04 will be slightly louder and have a bit less treadlife. Remember the mpss was the first max performance summer tire to even offer a treadlife warranty which was nice for us audi folks who have square tire setups. We'd get a second set of mpss at half price due to treadlife warranty. The s04 has no treadlife warranty at all
Again there is nothing wrong with the s04 at all. Let's just not try and convince ourselves that it's better than the best. It's not
I just put a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S on all four corners of my Carrera S. LOVE THEM! Ton of stick and much quieter than the Bridgestone's that had been on the car.
This. Coming from Bridgestones the PS4s are great. Infact, just did three days at the track one day was torrential rain and they were very good. On the highway I think they are really nice, quiet and everything a street tire should be.

I can't help but think that those folks saying that either of the Michelins are louder than these other tires are comparing them as an old worn out take off tire to a new tire regardless of brand. Can't do that. All brands when worn and old are going to be noiser than a new tire
I am still using PS2s. They perform well, are wearing well and are N rated. I also feel they are relatively quiet for UHP summer tires.
id like to try these out. I cant help but wonder if the n spec will help with all that weight over the rear tires in settling down some of that high speed squirminess that you can get in these cars in the rear.
Posted this in a different thread, but thought the tire life and alignment info might be useful here too.
Tire history from my maintenance records on my wife's 05 997.1 C2S are:
49,800 miles - installed Nitto Invo
62,900 miles - installed 4 Hankook Ventus evo2 (Nitto's lasted 13,000 miles which is why we decided to look at something different for the way she uses and drives her car). I kept the front Invos to use on my car when I wore out the set that was currently installed
86,332 - installed 2nd set of rear Hankooks (set 1 lasted 23,432)
103,000 - current mileage reading and not worn out yet - this puts the front mileage at 40,100 and the 2nd set of rears at 16,668. Looks like they'll probably make it into the low 20,000s as well.
On my silver car, which is driven like it's stolen pretty much every time it leaves the garage and has about 150 more HP than a stock C2S because of the supercharger, I run the Nitto Invos for the extra grip.
35,900 installed 4 Nitto Invos #1 on Champion RS171 wheels
47,700 installed new ADV1 wheels with another new set of Invos #2 (original Invos still good) - sold the ADV wheels with set #2 at 49,000 miles and put the Champions back on
53,000 installed new Forgeline wheels with another set of Nitto Invos #3
Champions still have set #1 on them - rears are about done - fronts are good for another set of rears. Mileage on that set (53,000 - 35,900 - 1,300 deduction for ADV time from odometer) is 15,800
Silver car has a full Stage 2 race suspension (Bilstein damptonic coilovers, monoball top mounts, LCA, toe steer kits, camber locks, etc) and is corner balanced and running the GT3 alignment settings below. Alignment and corner balance was done on 4/16/2014 at 42,000 miles and hasn't needed to be adjusted since - probably because there's aren't any rubber bushings left to wear and everything is locked down tight.
