Default The more I do, the worse it gets

My 2005 C2 is in excellent shape with tons of service records. The only issue it had when I bought it was a leaking RMS (I thought). Last week I pulled the trans, replaced the (not leaking) RMS and replaced the (leaking) seals on the IMSB cover. While I was there, I saw that the clutch had quite a bit of wear on it, so I replaced it too. After changing the oil and letting it run a bit, I noticed a leak at the waterpump, so now I'm working on that as well (t-stat too). 5 minutes into the job I find this. What next?

Replace the idler pulley next to the tensioner pronto. Yours is missing the plastic wheel and belt is riding on the bearing hub. See comparison pic in the serpentine belt replacement DIY. Best give your belt a good look too.

While you are there and have to drain the coolant for waterpump, replace that plastic water hose connector (one next to oil fill tube and plastic pulley) and check your oil fill hose/tube for crack.

I’m kinda surprised the belt is even still there.
Bearing is healthy but plastic idler is long gone.

Good tip tip on the plastic outlet.

The bearing is actually still there and turning, so it kinda looks worse than it is. I was surprised too, until I took it apart and got a good look.
My question was "how is the belt still on?" - you would think that it would be quite loose with that smaller radius.

If you want a more robust part for the plastic connector there is this:

Just replaced it myself. The OEM part is less expensive but a bit fragile.
Wow, that pulley looks crazy...age and use, it gets all of us

Suggest you replace all the idler pulleys and the tension pulley. Parts are from a '07 C2S. Idler pulley broke apart causing the belt to fail. When it failed it hit the oil filler tube splitting it in two.
