Functional Aerokits for 2009 997.2 Carrera 2
I am toying with the idea of buying a used 2009 997.2 3.6L C2 and over time turning into a street legal track car. The seller is a RennLister (though I am not sure how active he is) and he is local to me (making the possible sale easier on both of us) and well he might be happy to see this thread knowing that his car is on my short list of candidates. Anyway, probably the first mod I would do would be to look into installing coil overs and possibly looking into the swaybars as those (besides good shoes and good brakes) will have the most performance improvements on the track. But I am also thinking that a fixed rear wing, a front splitter and possibly side sills could be in the works and longer term installing racing seats, rollbar and a harness. But to get back on topic, the aerokit needs to be functional. I don't want to put something on the car that would be creating drag and not actually be helping improve the aerodynamics of the car. It's only going to be a medium speed Porsche on the straights, but I would like it to be the fastest that I could be in the corners. Any recommendations? I really like the look of the GT3 RS wing and splitters, but like my 993 I also like the look of the 993 GT2, but I would never dream of using the 993 GT2 aerokit on my 993C2 because well my 993C2 is just a medium speed Porsche. It is not insanely fast like the GT2. So would the GT3 RS wing and splitter be hurting the performance? Are there better options?
Here's the car I am considering. The engine is fairly low mileage and the body is in good shape. I still need to have it PPIed and I like driving my 993C2 more since the 993 is more raw. But this 997.2 is priced well for it to be turned into a street legal medium speed track car if it passes the PPI (which I suspect it will).

Porsche's GT cars are designed for track use first and foremost and with the #1 priority to lower lap times around the Ring, less so their other models where price point, 80/20 rules, and such come into play, so any setup from one of the GT cars will be functional as opposed to aesthetic, but they're also designed for the front and back aero to be used in conjunction as a set and other factors come into play here too, like ride height, how air from the center radiator exits, etc. For one of these kits to function as Porsche designed it, you'll need to dig deep into some of these specs on the GT car of the kit you're looking at.
Sounds like a cool project that will be interesting to follow along. Start up a thread once you've pulled the trigger.

I'll know where I stand next week.

Just buy a GT3. There are things about the GT3 that will be very hard to replicate with a Carrera as a base car.
Even if you did, the cost to get there will be huge—likely more than buying a GT3.
Also, there are things that you would not be likely to replicate, such as seam welding the chassis for additional stiffness.
If you ever sell the car, a highly modified Carrera will be a big losing financial proposition. The GT3 has a much better chance of retaining your original investment.
