So did they change the composition of the coating on replacement interior parts, as they do feel the same ? Hard to get a factual answer, Porsche parts guy I asked didn't know.

That's a good question. I thought they would have changed it, but I don't know. Maybe mine will get sticky over time, but not yet anyway. Cleaning might have worked, but no question some material would have had to come off. I just went ahead and spent the 60 bucks.

I just followed the advice of Bruce: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...l#post14571149
and a number of folks report that the cleaning method removes the soft rubber and leaves them feeling hard and plasticky, not tactile.

To me the diff in feel is basically imperceptible and they look perfect after cleaned. Why did you pay $60- you can get the pair for like 25 clams from MaCarbon?

I don't think MaCarbon sells them separately? Maybe they do, ... anyway, I generally stick with OEM unless it's a significant improvement (like wheels). Just my personal preference to keep it stock/OEM.

I bought them from MaCarbon and they were OEM, just thought I would get them with my new switches and compare to my cleaned ones, figured what the heck for $26, tax included. My cleaned ones looked just as good so I returned them with my core switch returns, no problem. Like I said about $26 all in and OEM..

I believe you can only get them on MaCarbon if you buy the whole setup, and I only see Gen1, not 997.2. So it's $26 if you spend the other $185 and return your core, and OEM 997.1 radio buttons are only $24 at Suncoast...

Unless I am missing something on the Macarbon site?

No, I apparently was missing the fact that yours are for the 997.2 - didn't realize the 'sticky' problem carried over to that gen

Definitely carried over. For some reason, the 997.2 ***** cost ~2.5 times more. Maybe it's the 3 parts vs. just one in the 997.1. Well, enough said on the topic. Worth fixing one way or the other.

I have had the sticky **** problem on both 996 and 997.2. It's an easy job to clean off the sticky coating with alcohol and re-coat with Plasti Dip spray. There are multiple You Tube videos out there showing how to do it.

I have the sticky buttons in the club coupe and will get around to replacing.
But, thats pretty minor league, compared to a ferrari. They’re infamous for sticky buttons and cost most of $2K to replace

Remove ***** first, they just pull off. Don't keep wiping after the goo is gone. Keep using new parts of the rag, I used old clean t shirt.
Perfect results. Climate control rockers are a different story.

A word of caution, if you have a 997.2 the ***** don't just pull off. You need a 6t bit or screw driver to properly remove both *****.

And to follow up on the word of caution above - Those screws holding the ***** on are really tiny. And they're easy to drop. And if you drop one, it can REALLY be hard to find. And potentially even harder to retrieve.

After about an hour of searching, I finally located it (wedged between the driver's seat track and the center console hump. Had to remove the driver's seat to get it. (When I dropped it, it hit the center console shelf and bounced.)

And another note about those screws - If you happen to lose one - good luck getting a replacement. When I dropped mine (and thought I lost it) I contacted Becker to inquire about getting one. Their comment was "we don't supply those items as separate for-sale components..."

I ordered a replacement pair today.

Can you share the technique to remove them? I’m guessing you pride out the center cap, and from there you can see that screw? TIA...
