First Impressions - GT3 shifter in my 997.2 Carrera
So after a good amount of delay I decided to pop for the GT3 shifter from Suncoast Parts (rolled-up cost $445.82). There's plenty of DIY install help here and on YouTube, so will say only to take your time, especially on reassembly (under dash wiring plug I'm looking at you). Well, shifters swapped out and now it's time for a test flight. Not seeing a noticeable difference in throw length (advertised as such) but shift action is tightened up nicely. Me likey, as additional benefit was learning how the various pieces of center console go together.
In summary, I'm five months into this first-Porsche-for-me. Mods so far are Bluetooth streaming, Fister mufflers (excellent!), DIY intake screens and now this shifter upgrade. Only other item on radar is maybe an upgraded steering wheel. I'm very pleased with my choice of a 997.2 C2. This is a fantastic car for me, while I acknowledge there's much more available out there. If I want More Porsche I'll sell this one and move up!

Reason: Changed wording.
Nothing wrong with going OEM for reliability. For those comfortable with the DIY, you can make you own GT3 shifter out of a Carrera unit with the exact same metal bushings for $65:
Yowzah. I'll be putting my original shifter up for sale on the forum. I watched a couple of vids detailing bushing replacement, but I didn't want to do that kind of work as it looked too fiddly to me. Fave to date hands-down is the Fisters. They sound great.

Replacement GT3/GT2 shift console. Similar design to the standard shift console used on 2005-2012 Boxster/Cayman/Carrera models, but this version has upgraded billet aluminum left/right pivot bushings instead of plastic.Compatible with these models:
- Boxster - 1997-2012
- Cayman - 2006-2012
- Carrera - 1999-2012

That's really great info... For some reason I thought the Gt3 shifter was just using the SSK. I have the SSK in a couple of my cars. Do you know if anyone has used these billet inserts on the SSK?

I ran the OEM Carrera shifter, the GT3 unit, the SSK and the SSK with the Phenix inserts before upgrading to the Numeric.
The billet inserts do make a lot of difference. About the same but not as much as the function first solution (which i've tried but not in my car). Though they are a quarter of the price of the FF solution.
Thanks for the comment. I'm a newbie to Porsche, just trying to share thoughts on my learning this car as a mid-grade DIYer. The engineering on these cars is really something - simple in many respects but so elegant.

I love my Fisters as well, but I highly recommend you install the center muffler bypass pipes too. It will be even better!
Nope, no more exhaust mods for me. Car performs and sounds jes’ right now for this owner. My objective is to keep it in best condition I can while I learn more about Porsche.

is Fister worth it? what's the difference with just getting it welded? theyre local to me...
i did Carnewal back in the days when no local guys were doing it.. i had to send my core to Europe..haha!!

Unless you know someone that can weld as well as the guys that make the Fisters, then they are definitely worth every penny.

I was impressed with the quality of welding and the ceramic coating. To me the exhaust note is just right. With the $550 core refund I thought it was a good purchase.
Keep in mind, a Fister D exhaust can be resold or will be worth something to an enthusiast. A muffler welded together by some random person less so. So, if it's under a $200 diff, go with Fister.
I'll second the question of replacing the plastic in the SSK. Anyone done that?
