Bilstein B6 popping / clicking noise
Hi -
Yesterday, friends helped me bleed the brake lines on my 2007 Targa 4...I had never done it before and wanted to learn and also get ready for an upcoming DE.
After we were finished, we did a test drive to make sure brakes were fine...we noticed that there was a popping / clicking sound coming from the passenger front wheel. The sound happens at a specific point in turning the wheel, very repeatable.
We drove the car maybe 10 miles tops to see if that settled things in at all and eliminated the noise...no such luck. I then drove about 80 miles home and the noise still exists.
I have attached a movie file where you can hear the sound
Bilsteins purchased and installed Sept 2017. About 2000 miles put on the car since then, including one DE.
Any ideas on the issue? I have a DE coming up in 3 weeks and don't want to make things worse.
Thanks

Bilstein coilovers tend to bind up when turning, then when the spring torsion pressure gets high enough, they release and make that popping or clunkink noise. It won't effect their performance.
First thing to check is that the top tether cable is secured properly and that the springs are properly secured 8nto the groove for them in the top mount.
What many of us do is buy a set of thrust bearings that have the proper ID & OD to fit over the lower spring perch and support the spring. This allows the spring to rotate and twist without binding up so you don't get that release noise.

Hey guys - THANKS for all of the input.
I am out of town now for work - am taking it in to my trusted indy on Tuesday next week - will let you all know what the verdict is. He didn't think a performance issue.
@jkw911 - I don't believe that I replaced the top plate - that may be part of the problem

I’m not a suspension expert but I did change mine since they are a wear item. I updated the system basically due to age and did not get too fancy. Your Indy will sort it out. Good luck!

The issue turned out to be worn strut mount bearings.
However, a strange rubbing sound came up after the mount bearings were replaced, so car is still in shop.
For those Rennlisters in the Cincinnati area, I wanted to provide a shout out to Foreign Exchange in West Chester (and Mason). Austin (the owner) didn't want me to leave with the car making the strange sound, unfortunately, I needed to get to the airport for a trip. Austin drove me the hour+ home. The customer service from Foreign Exchange is off the chart in my opinion.
thanks
