Default Weird Inside Door Handle Break

Last night I went to get out of the car and the the door handle made a weird "POP". It still opened, but the handle left a few millimeters of space from the place it used to return to when I let go of the inside handle.

I noticed that the auto window cracking protocol was not attempting to return to the closed position unless I manually pushed the handle to the fully closed position. I checked the forecast (OK for now) and was grabbing my stuff from the passenger side when the window miraculously closed and now (although the gap is still there) seems to work.

Only caveat is that if I push the handle to the fully closed position, the window cracking system is triggered

Hopefully this gets me home (it is supposed to rain today).

Any ideas on what this is?
how hard it would be to fix?
Do I really need to fix it - the sucker rattled against the door before?
Anybody see this before?
Will it go back to the open position if I hit a bump or something?

Shows the small crack (Increased gap to the door)

Very common issue. Pretty easy to DYI. I posted my DIY thoughts and helpful vids here. It gets alittle tricky cause the current part is different than the original part. https://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/1033385-open-door-and-snap.html#post14583913

My dealer fixed mine for about $150. It's a tiny plastic clip that connects a rod that activates the mechanism.

Fairly easy DIY. Much info on the forum on this and videos too.

Thanks!!

Pelican parts mentions to get the cable as well. Do you know if that is always (or usually) needed?

Usually the cable is not necessary unless the little ball broke off the end of it. I've changed a few of them and it's usually just the plastic molded anchor on the back of the handle that breaks.

Check your local dealer. I have been surprised a number of times how reasonable parts are - especially if you are PCA member and get a discount.

Fixed mine 6 months ago. No cable needed. Ordered door trim removal tools and new replacement part from Pelican. I am not a DIY'er, but total investment was $35, and some time. 997.2S

I bought mine from Suncoast. Came with the cable but didn't use.

I've been a little surprised also. I needed a new "Passenger Side Seat Belt Off/On" light for my console. Found one online for $25. I'm sure it's much cheaper to make but I wasn't complaining. I was happy I even found one, lol!

The door hardware was the same. $35

The reason for the updated cable is because they changed the design of the inner door handle lever. The cable end and where it attaches is a different shape. If you transfer just the new piece to the old lever you don't need the cable.
