Default Thinking about a 991 or 2

I think I go thru this every spring. But I have a 2009 specked the way I wanted. Auto, cab, AWD, 18's. Thought it would be a perfect DD.

I drove my daughters 535 and I enjoyed the softer ride over the potholes. Then drove the 997 and spilled my coffee.

Considering changing for a softer ride. I must be getting old.

I'm considering the same as well. Except it's because of age-related wear. I strongly dislike worn leather/trim bits, and inevitable plastic squeaking (doesn't help being clinically diagnosed with obsessive compulsive disorder). Been driving my range rover so much more lately, 911 is reserved for jaunts up Angeles Crest highway.
Perhaps revolving through leased 911's is my next step, unless porsche ditches a manual gearbox.

Have you thought about installing Eibach springs? Not only your car will look much better, but the ride will be considerably better than the OEM SUV ride height springs.

Michelin 4S tires make a nice difference over rough stuff on the street, but you may not love the 19 or 20 in rims on the newer cars, 19's are pretty crashy if you asked me.

I'd sell my car for a 991.2 Carrera T, but it's just not in the cards right now.

You are in the wrong forum. Go to https://rennlist.com/forums/991-221/ and you will get a more compassionate ear, over there.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Nosce te ipsum.
I found the 991.1 to be a good bit softer and more luxurious, if you enjoyed the ride in 535.. that seems like the right direction.

I just turned in a leased Mercedes SL-400 before buying the Porsche. I really liked the SL 400 a lot, very, very comfortable and pleasant car. Reasonably priced too. It is a very different car than the 911. I kind of decided to "try" the 997.2 instead of going all in on a new 991.

I just feel like I'm wussing out. When I started this whole 911 thing I thought I wanted an air cooled car. After a few test drives I decided I couldn't handle the ride every day and got a 996 which seemed like a rolls Royce in comparison. I think I'll be better once the fix the roads.

Try downtown Los Angeles roads in a 911, unpleasant at any speed. I did drive a 2013 Boxster and it was much smoother than a 997, but I think you can only do so much, these are pretty unforgiving cars on some roads.

You left coast guys are a bunch of spoiled drivers. Try driving anywhere in the North East after the winter we've had
and you are slaloming thru potholes even on the freeways. For us that is every day life and to boot when they cover them over
the bumping is atrocious. Long live eternal summer in Cali!

If you can afford it, a 991 .1 or .2 is nice, life is short enjoy it. I just moved up to a 991.2. It certainly isn't any softer than my 997.1 was but I have SPASM and it is expect to be stiffer. Stiffer is not always bad if the bumps are 'muted' and they certainly are on the 991s. Test drive both a 991.1 and .2, they are VERY different beasts. I would never have traded my 997.1 for a 991.1 however the .2 did it for me.
Make sure your test drives are long and if you can go alone that is even better. Having a jabbering sales person in car with you is too much of a distraction. Minimum 25 minutes on different roads. Before I bought mine two weeks ago I got a two hour drive through the mountains, but then my dealer knows me and I have bought several cars from them. Have you considered a Panamera or Macan?

Well said...I drive on 18" winter tires with "custom" pressures and also adjust my DSC PASM box for Bostonian ugly roads. When I first time go to the track in April it takes me a few laps to recognize that there is no potholes.
