Is this 997.1 C4 worth it?
I have a question for you gentlemen, there is a local guy here who is selling his 2008 911 C4 with 50k miles. It does not have any options except navigation which the screen does not work. He said the screen can be replaced for a few hundred dollars. It has a tiptronic, the exterior and interior is in great shape. It drives really nice and has great pick up speed when I down shift and hit the gas. He does have a few service and repair records of the usual basic wear stuff. His asking price is $36k but open for negotiation. Assuming the PPI all checks out ok, do you think its a good deal? What would be a fair price for this car?

The price is actually in the ball park for a Tip C4S with some minor issues. Look on Ebay for a 997 PCM and you will find used units from $300ish. Silver, Gray and black make up about 80% of the colors available. The Tip trans and broken PCM are factors that lower the price as most buyers want a manual first, PDK second and Tip last. Take a look on cargurus and do a nation wide search. C4S are hard to find. My advice is to wait for the car you really want if this isnt the one.

I think that is a good price but I doubt the PCM would be only a few hundred to repair. I wouldn’t care since I would put an aftermarket head unit in there anyway and am not hung up with the OEM look. The PDKs are overrated in my opinion. I had a Cayenne S for 14 years a recently replaced it with a Macan and I don’t feel that much of a difference between the two trannys. The triptronic is good but if you want a manual then keep looking.

Agree. If it was an S, there would be a Bose tag on the door panel in the interior photo and it would have red calipers. That's also a whole lot of monochrome color combo with the silver exterior and grey interior. Given its a base, a tip, and has some issues, I'd pass unless it was about $30k.

If the car is what you want as far as model and options, id just work on the price.
If literally the only issue is the nav screen, thats a VERY simple fix. You can even swap in a new updated HU for a 150 bucks or so plus the cost of the HU.
I was able to fetch an 07 997S with similar miles for 36K I believe and it had the turbo wheels and aero package... sticker was 109K MSRP.
If you could come in around 32K for that car I think youd be in a better spot.

Just consider that it has shortcomings not being an S and having a tip and being a 08 997.1 If you went to a 09 S PDK you would have alot more updated car and be far advanced. How many $ more would it be to make that step and have that advantage

Thank you for all the inputs gentlemen. Just to be clear this car is a 2008 C4, I wish it was a C4S! Here are my personal Pro's and Con's about this car.
The Cons: Tiptronic, even though I prefer 6sp manual but a tiptronic would not be the end of the world for me
Broken screen, can easily be replace with OEM or aftermarket. I'm leaning towards the latter.
Base model with no options
The Pros: The body and paint is in great shape
The interior is very clean and no visible wear or scuff
No leaks underneath motor, runs very smooth
Low mileage
Is a C4 with the wide body, this is my most favorite part of the car

I've been looking and the 09 is A LOT more $$ than the 997.1. Yes the 09 has the DFI engine but from what I've heard, the performance is only marginal to the 08 model. Yes the 08 still has the IMS bearing but the later 997 didn't really suffer the failure like the 996. In conclusion, the later 997.1 would be the better bang for the buck IMO.

If it's clean and no accident or other issues, it's a bargain! Go for it. A cpl of notes though:
- PCM replacement would be higher, unless you find one on eBay. Probably best is to get aftermarket
- Tip is not too popular, so resell maybe harder, but with that price WHO CARES?
So, all in all, for a price of a KIA, you will get an amazing car. Best of luck...
