And then .1 numbers to compare
3x as many .1 C2Ss as .2 and 2.5x as many .1 turbos as .2 (including both TT and TTs .2s)

If I'm reading that right from your link, the number of 997.1 built were about double that of 997.2.

I think there's some conflating of WW production numbers, and US sales numbers. I suspect you both are correct, just not talking about the same thing.

True, the numbers i posted are all WW but that matters when we are talking collector/classic status. Just look at the number of Euro spec F40s and E-types in the US.
It's just not going to happen with the 997 outside of the GT cars and limited prod models. There were just too many produced

Wonder how many of them are still alive, as some of them have to been crashed or wadded.

Yippee! My base spec Coupe is rarer than an 'S'!

I working on the Autotrader ad right now...... 'Rare 997 Carrera Coupe'..........

Collectible status will go to the turbos and GT3s if you have a unicorn Coupe or S kept in a bubble then yes you will get some value from that.

Everyone else has to be happy with the normal mileage / age depreciation albeit at lower rates than your average car. I remember the old joke about Jaguars - you lose half the value when you drive it off the dealers lot!!

Good article nicely sums up 997 collectible or not.

That article felt to me like a poorly written fluff piece to bring in Google hits more than anything.

Why is everyone focused on COLLECTIBLE here?? O/P didn’t ask if it’ll be a collectible. In time, everything becomes collectible to some degree anyway (think amount of time, relative to amount produced, relative to how many remain on roads).

CLASSIC is a much different story. A base 993 is a classic. Old 911’s by default are generally classics. An N/A car is rapidly becoming a classic. Many manuals will soon be classics.

Not so fluffy. Just an opinion. 997 is a great car. Its just mass produced and except for a very very few models in 20 plus years they are still not collectible in my life time. Insurance, registration, service, storage will crush ROI. Now, if we have run away inflation and NK invades, that could change everything.

In the article they called the 997 air cooled.

I believe writer was saying its the closest heir to the legendary air-cooled 911s. Not implying the 997 is air-cooled.
