Default Porsche Battery Minder - doesn't work on other cars

I have the Porsche Battery minder. Works great on the Pcar plugged into the lighter socket, but tried to plug it into my 2004 Mercedes and 2016 Honda products with no luck.
Why doesn't this item work on other cars? Or am I missing something?

I thought it was just a rebranded ctek unit, so I assume you must be missing something?

Which version do you have (post a pic)? In any case it should work in any car, just make sure the plug you connect to is not switched.

It might have to do with the cig lighter not working when key off. I'll check that out.
Of course the lightbulb in my head went off just as I hit send on the orig post.

It's possible both of those other cars have a switched lighter socket. If the socket is disconnected when the car is off no power will go from the charger to the battery.

I had a 2010 MBZ and the Porsche Charger worked via the cigarette lighter....must be the year of your MBZ.

My guess is the fact that 95% normal cars always have 12 volt sockets shut off when ignition is closed. That is why you have no connection when plugging it in.

Easiest way to solve it is to use battery terminal and chassi clamps if you have them.

If you have a quick connector on your CTEK you can even fix a permanent, easy access cable with LED indicators that you attach to battery/chassi and that can be accessed even with hood closed. See pic. I have it on all our cars.

Charger will work with all cars as it's a CTEK charger.

just had issue with wife’s 07 E350. The lighter is switched so using it to connect an outside source won’t work.
