Default Cranks, but won't start. Any ideas?

My 06 C4S will crank just fine, but not turn over. Plenty of battery, but either no spark or no fuel. Anyone else experience this? Car has 70k miles, in very, very good condition. I drove it all day, got home and washed it (to include engine bay), dried it with a towel(s) and then jumped back in, fired it up and pulled it into the garage. The next morning - plenty of cranking power, but it won't turn over. Fuel Pump Relay? Fuel Pump?

Did you try giving it a little gas while cranking?

I didn't the first several times, but then did toward the end (to include one attempt of just holding the pedal to the floor while turning ignition). No change.

Where is the CPS located? Would it be worth buying a new one and replacing the old one in hopes it does the trick?

I think the HPFP is only on the 997.2 with direct injection. I think the 997.1 has a regular fuel pump.

Hpfp is 7.2 only. if your cps is shot the tach wont register at all while cranking.

You need to find out if you have fuel or spark.

Sounds like it might have been a bit flooded, but cranking at wot should have helped with that

Did you check the fuel pump fuse?

I did a visual-only inspection of every fuse in the car (that I can get to) and none of them were "blown". I also suspect a fuse or relay but cannot find the culprit.

Will it try to fire at all but won't really run or nothing at all other than cranking? Turning over usually refers to the process of the starter rotating the engine, not the engine not firing so we should use appropriate terms to describe and help solve the issue. I believe what you're describing is the engine will turnover, but won't start or fire, correct?

If the former you may have a large vacuum leak somewhere. This happened to me once where I did a spirited mountain drive up to a golf course, played golf, then car wouldn't run when I went to leave. Turned out to be a broken plastic check valve on a vacuum line.

In your case its odd it happened right after you washed it. I'm hoping you didn't use a pressure washer as both that and steam cleaning can push water past the seals in what are normally watertight connectors. It almost sounds like something has gotten too wet and either temporarily or permanently shorted out. I would let it just dry for a day and see what happens before starting to replace parts. If no joy tomorrow then its time to check some fuses for continuity with a multimeter. When it's turning over, does the tach needle jump with the revolution of the engine? If it does, it's probably not the cps.

Thank you everyone for your assistance. The issue, it turns out, is the fuel level sending unit. The 997 fuel gauge was showing the needle just barely kissing the red warning section (indicating only 25 miles or so until empty). On a whim I decided to add a gallon of go-go juice and she fired right up!

Great, but you shouldn't run your tank that low. Fuel in the tank helps to cool the pump, prolonging its life and any junk in the tank floating on the top of the fuel will get sucked into the pump when its that low. You should refill at about 1/4 tank when possible.

I want my money back on this one. Wait, nah it gave me my chuckle of the day. Better to run out of gas in your driveway than in the middle of nowhere.
