Before I bought my car, I did extensive research on lap times and comparing the 2 cars, As mentioned, I kind of expected a bigger difference when comparing lap times.
Everyone probably knows that the 997.2 C2S does the Ring in 7:50.0, and the .1 being 7:56 (or 7:59 depending on the publication). BUT the interesting thing is that the 997.2 is a PDK, using Sport Cup tires and PCCB according to Sport Auto Mag August 2008. The fastest publicized 997.2 manual trans was 7:58 (no other details on this car). I can't begin to think how much quicker the Cup tires make these cars, but I have heard that going from a PS2 to a PSS is worth about 1 sec per 60 sec lap and going from a PSS to a Cup2 is about another 1-1.5 sec
Some other "fastest" laps at some popular tracks (the faster times are always the 997.2, but dont have many details on these cars regarding PDK or 6mt, tires, brakes, etc...)
Autozeitung
1:39.0 vs 1:39.8
Balocco
2:54.3 vs 2:55.5
Marcoussis
1:23.47 vs 1:24.02
Not to make this a .1 vs .2 thread, but it is amazing just how close the cars are given the 30 hp difference.

One of the reasons I was drawn to the GTS. It's the only 997.2 wide body without any clutter back there. No red reflector and no wing......both of which detract from the curves imo. From behind it looks just like a 997.1 C4S with different tail lights and different badge.

I was referring to the comment above mine about 1/4 mile times.... half a sec in drag racing is Huge...Not so much in terms of "road racing" lap times. So I agree, on a road course there's probably not that much to worry about. IMO it would be ALL DRIVER MOD to achieve better lap times. The PDK would be a huge advantage in drag racing as well.
So, if you're worried about drag / roll racing, get the .2. If you just want an awesome street toy capable of similar lap times as the .2, get a .1 and take some driving lessons. lol

I've done the major hp straight line thing (see my sig. / vids). I wanted a fun sports car for the hills / track!

I was searching for 997.2's primarily, but when I found a pristine, meticulously maintained and fully loaded 997.1 C4S for $10k less than 997.2 prices, I decided to go for it. I don't regret my decision.
If I were to sell it, I wouldn't bother with a 997.2 S or GTS. Not enough of an improvement over my car with its PowerKit, PCCB's, TechArt coilovers and loaded interior with Sea Blue full leather to justify the price. I'd just go straight to a Turbo.
