Ok guys been looking around and the early 997s 2005-2007 are coming down to around $30s I know the base 997s still have a carry over with the M96 engine and the 2007 seems to be the best model to get if that's the price range that allows a purchase. I want to know from all 997 owners from 2005-2007, why you choice your 997? I also dig the taco tails and I am looking to convert or buy a aero 997.
I shopped for a 6 spd with Aerokit, bought the '06 (in my avatar) from one of the two ATL Porsche dealers before they even posted a picture on the web. Saw it listed on inventory one night - looked at it next day and bought it pending PPI. PPI came out very clean.
Edit - the plus was it's an "S", only 2 previous owners - 1st for 6 months and 2nd for last 9 years. Very pristine shape and about 52k miles.
I was in the 997.1 or 996tt boat when I was looking.
After finding my 997.1 (07 C2S), the interior and updates over the 996 were a no brainer to me. Mine came with factory aero as well and a 6spd and a pretty loaded option car, think only box not checked was the full leather.
After driving and talking with some local 997 turbo owners, many wish they had gotten the NA as the power is more usable on tighter back roads, etc. Granted, straight out, you will get spanked by a turbo, tight twist back roads, seems to even out a great deal.
The fit and interior of the 997.1 was so leaps and bounds better then the 996tt, didn't give it a second thought. That said, the head unit has no input, no bluetooth and is lacking for "modern" tech. I have an add on bluetooth system, but it's worthless! I'm not a big stereo guy, but would be nice when I wanted to use it, it was more modern. I know, for like $1000 I can upgrade it, but I'd rather spend that on gas and drive it.
I never understood the Porsche crazed, devoted, obsessed owners before I bought mine..now, I do!
I am not sure the exact question, if it is "why did you chose the 997 over a 996?", there are numerous reasons. The first and biggest reason for me is the 997 looks MUCH better. Yes, they have a similar engine to the 996, but the small bump in HP, for some reason equates to HUGE performance improvements. The 997 is in a totally different league.
