Default 997.1 - Weird oil temperature gauge malfunction- Any ideas?

Happened literally after I praised my car...

Car was working great till about a few hours ago, the oil temperature gauge suddenly started reading one to a few bars low for what the oil temperature should have been.

I found it strange as no other instruments were malfunctioning and after stopping the car, the oil level sensor was reading accurately. No CELs were thrown up either.

Even more strange was during a hard 2nd gear pull, the oil temperature dropped significantly for a few seconds before returning to its former "not at the correct level" position.

Anyone got any ideas? Broken gauge? Faulty sensor? Another to add to my car's list of niggling faults?

Damn Porsche tax is hitting me hard...

Oil is the life's blood of these cars, did you change the oil recently? check the oil level recently? notice a rise in engine temps?

Nah, beyond topping up the oil recently, it has not been touched. Its not due to be changed for a couple more thousand kilometers. Everything was working normally up until then.

The gauge is reading low at the moment, giving an inaccurate measurement of the engine temperature. Everything else seems to be working normally.

Really irritating.

An update: Drove the car today. Seems to be reading one to two increments low. For example actual engine temp is 90 degrees, the temperature gauge reads 70 or 80.

Rest of the gauge cluster works perfectly.

Sigh.

Probably needs a new sending unit. See attached document on .1 sensor locations.

Thanks, I'll inform my mechanic. Is it a big fix?

So the sending unit could be responsible for this? I'm having a similar issue where the oil temp gauge should be at 200 and it stays at 175. It will jump to 225 then go back down to 175 even while a spirited driving.

i had the sending unit changed only two years ago.

i should also mention that recently the oil pressure gauge was at 0.5 when the ignition was on, which may indicate a faulty sender. I cleaned the connections and it read 0 afterwards but the oil temp gauge issue started around the same time.
