Nice tool for those of us shopping for a used car. Thanks for the backdoor. It's still open.
I've taken it one better for us Windows users, and turned it into a short batch file that will ask for the VIN, then open the print view in a new browser. (I've set it to use chrome). What can I say; I'm lazy and don't want to have to keep manually copying and pasting the partial URL.
If you want to use this, too, copy the short code below into a new text file, then click "Save As", pick "all file types", and name it something like "PorscheVIN.bat". The .bat extension is the key piece.
- When you double-click the file, it'll ask for the VIN in a command window.
- You can paste the VIN from whatever ad you're looking at, and hit "Enter". The first one I tried on a Gen1 CTT I'm looking at, I found that the car has the sport seat option and "Enter and Drive"... nice.
I'm saving the sheets I want by printing them as PDFs... which I then make notes on regarding asking price, KBB values, etc.
Cheers!
Code follows:
@echo off
set /p VIN=Porsche VIN?
start chrome https://admin.porschedealer.com/repo....php?vin=%VIN%

If you use Chrome there's an extension that spits out the below with one click (as long as there's only one VIN on the page).

Edit: I'm not super-comfortable about the pre-installation disclaimer though: "This extension can read and change all your data on the websites you visit"... use at your own risk.

standard use case though poorly articulated. Prob English as second language. I know well. I work in this industry. If it can’t read the website how the hell is it supposed to read the VIN from the page?

I'm dangerous with IT as well; it's all a matter of calculated risk. Do you know if it's always active, or does the plugin wait for a command before scanning a page for a VIN?

Decoder works great for VWs though...thanks!

one item to keep in mind is that this is not a standalone plugin but is approved and available through Google's extension store. So it also has some QC in applying to Google's Ts n Cs.
So no it can't just run JC that scans your banking site inputs.

you change it to which ever kind of car you want, I dont know if you are looking for some particular codes but you can look up the car by vin

For example, someone listed a Gen 1 V8 Touareg near me on CL, and they included a snapshot of their emissions certification, which includes the VIN... which I then used to pull the full build sheet from the VW part of the carinfo site to learn that it does have the locking rear diff option I'm looking for, but not the air suspension, all without seeing any pics of the interior.
