Default First 911. Need some help

First post and maybe first 911. Have found a 2009 that I am very interested in and wanted to see if anyone could recommend a good shop to get a PPI completed? Would appreciate any recommendations on shops or what to look for other than the obvious on most used cars. From the research I have done it appears these motors (3.6) base model carrera is pretty reliable. The car has 58k miles on it. Clutch is brand new. No accident history per car fax. I posted this in the general forum before I found the 997 forum.

It might help if you provide the city the car is located in. I had an independent Porsche shop do my ppi. Maintenance history and over rev report are always good to have.

Haha. Thanks for pointing that out. I put the city in my original post in the subject line, but forgot to in this one. Car is located in Richmond VA.

Looks sweet. Car looks like its priced right for .2 base with 58k miles. I would jump on it if it checks out in the PPI.

Only issue I see is tan leather tends to age more than black. You can likely get the faded handbrake and shifter resprayed to look new.

It would also give me some pause buying from a Nissan dealer, but then again I got a great deal on a Land Rover from a Honda dealer...

Check how many owners in the carfax and of course any accidents. Try to get a feel for who the prior owners were. Ask if they have maintanence records and if the trade-in was local, who they were and where they maintained the car. If they can give you the prior owners contact info then score...but they likely wont.

Re the PPI, once you identify a good local shop, I would spend the extra bucks to have them cut open the oil filter and check for any debris. You can ask if they can boroscope it to be uber thorough.

Check the life on the brakes and rotors, make sure the 40k service was done with new plugs, and cold start it to check for any white smoke (dont let them warm it up before you arrive), get a paint meter on it to check for any repairs, and get the DME report for over-revs.

.2s are known to be generally bulletproof so as long as it checks out, you will have a blast with likely one of the most reliable cars you will ever own.

7 owners. Nothing bad in there but not many entries after the first owner other than yearly registration renewals.

Wow, that Nissan dealer has some cool Porsches for sale including a GT3, 993, and a 997 turbo. The 7 previous owners would concern me and the fact in may have been driven on salty roads in Pennsylvania. However, the price is right. Hard to find a 997.2 for under $40k.

Yea the 7 owner part doesn't make me feel great. Current dealer said they believe 2 or 3 of those were other dealers. He indicated no rust or corrosion at all. They installed new tires yesterday and clutch was replaced about a week ago. What causes me some concern is the last owner works for them (dealership) and only kept if for a few months. Makes you think he may have noticed some issues or potential problems?? I did contact a group who does PPI's on 911's quite frequently and the cost would Be $200. I'm feeling this would be a must prior to buying.

The appear to be a Nissan dealership but they are an offshoot associated with the dealership that deals in high end vehicles. Porsche, Mercedes, Lambo's, etc

All good points. I noticed the same on the carfax.

My concern with colder climates would be borescoring.

I would ask them why the owner is selling, and see if you can talk to him/her.

I wouldn't totally assume the worst on why the employee is selling. I bought mine from a Pcar shop that did the same. He liked to have 1-2 cars for sale out front that he would buy and sell from his customers. He drove them for 3-6 months and sold them. It was a free car for him and some extra money on the side. I knew I had a reputable mechanic who had driven the car for months and wasn't going to risk his reputation pushing a bad car to his customers.

You are buying the last owner as much as a car.

If it were me, I would take it to the next step to get a PPI and check out the car thoroughly. They will likely charge you an additional ~$200 to do a boroscope and check the oil filter. On the .2 you can remove the oil filter without changing the oil. I would not buy the car without either.

2009 does not have much issues with that, yet anyway.
