Putting Clear Bra on Black Car

Putting Clear Bra on Black Car
I took my black 911s to have it clear bra-ed. The hood has a numerous rock chips. The guys told me that if i just touched up the chips and then put a clear bra over the top the clear bra would highlight the chips. Apparently black is known to do this. A repaint would cost two grand and a touch up two hundred. The touch up guy didn't think it would be an issue. Anyone know about this?

Unfortunately, I believe your bra installer is correct. A rock chip creates a crater which the clear bra will "attempt" to fill. Since the bra is very shiny, you'll see any imperfections. It's not unique to black cars only. It is unique to dark colored cars such as black, midnight blue, and gray.
Touching up rock chips puts color into the chip crater, but, does not eliminate the crater. So, the proper way to do this is to fill the craters followed by repaint of any parts that are to be covered by the bra if they currently have rock craters. JMHO.

heres the problem, why spend money to bra/protect a hood thats already damaged. That hood probably costs $500 right?
And why do a 1/2 A job and touch it up.
I had very few chips on my hood, I painted it for $600, bra'd it for $750. now its perfect . By the way it doesnt cost 2000 to paint a hood

I third the above (maybe fourth?) Have chips on my hood and front clip and installer who I know and trust said the same thing. Just drive until you can't stand it anymore, then respray and PPF. And like the above said, black respray is the easiest to match. If you are paying over $500 for a hood it better be concours quality.

ok thanks guys. The quote i got was $1750 for the hood. that is with a new hood as the guy said it would be cheaper to buy a new hood. He said he could touch up the chips for $200. The clear bra quote for entire front end (fenders, hood, mirrors) was $1785. That is with the full hood not the half.
I washed the car last night and it didn't look too bad really. I am thinking some touch up work of filling craters and then putting dabs of clear coat might be good enough for me.

Cheaper to buy a new hood???
The hood is essentially flat, I don't think there is any other part on the car that is easier to sand down. It takes 30min to remove the hood and sand it. It should cost $50 to get your hood ready for primer/paint.
