Default Custom wood shift **** installed - 997.2

After searching endlessly for a replacement to my stock shift ****, I finally found exactly what I was looking for. I know this one might not be to everyone's liking, but I couldn't be happier with the way it came out.

The **** is inspired by the one on the Porsche 917, but I went with walnut and maple wood as I wanted something a bit darker.

I still need to lower it more, as it is currently too high for my taste. Even though the new one is the same height as the stock one, the shaft doesn't go as far inside as with the stock ****. I'm planning to either install a Numeric shifter and use the lowest setting, or if I end up going with the Shift-Right solution from Function First, I might just cut the shifter a bit to make it shorter.

Here are some pics even though it's very hard to capture the actual color of the wood with my iPhone camera.

Nice retro style. Where'd you find this? I've been thinking of doing some tartan seat inserts and this could be a good complement.

Life-saving airbags are the side curtain ones. The frontal airbag does little a properly set seatbelt can't do.

Thanks! I got it from Manuel which is the same guy that did my leather button and polished aluminum bezel for the horn of my steering wheel. His eBay user is mcv911. If you want you can send me a PM and I can give you more info and his personal email.

Tartan inserts is another mod I'm considering for next year. I already started looking at different patterns but I still haven't found the right one. It's a sea of tartan out there! I'm enjoying the search though

Yes I do. I also disabled the TPMS sensors and the clutch safety switch so I don't have to push the clutch to start my car.

I guess that way you also don't have to worry about recalls.

There's also customwoodshiftknobs.com that will do almost whatever you want. No affiliation.

Installed the Numeric shifter and cut the shifter shaft 20mm to fit the boot properly and to get the right height for the shifter. Now it’s perfect!

here are a couple of pics of the end result:

Your interior looks great and perfectly matches the "vintage classic" exterior look

Alejandro, that looks sweet!

I wish I could figure out how to upload some pics to Photobucket so I can post mine but whatever.....it's the sweetest upgrade (and the cheapest) I've ever done to my car. Thanks for inspiring me to do this and thanks for the intro to Manuel....he is an artist!

I wholeheartedly disagree, having gone face-first into an airbag on one occasion.

OP, I love the mod. Very cool indeed. The risk/reward does not add up for me, personally, but the finished product in eye candy for sure.

Thanks Tom! It was my pleasure to help you. Unfortunately your Porsche Tech was going to be out of the shop for training during my available dates so I ended up doing it at Champion Motorsports in Pompano. It came out as good as yours!

I’m still planning to go to the Revs Institute in Naples in the next few weeks so I’ll ring you to meet up for that coffee

Below you will see one of the pics you sent me of the finish product in your car. I love how it came out.
