What's normal oil temp for 997.2
Hi all,
I've only had the car for a couple of month, it's a 2011 model.
I've noticed that around town the oil temp gauge is sitting at about 93-95c (194-199F) and on track days it'll get up to 120-123c (248-253F). It's only going spring here so I'm worried about summer temps.
Is my experience the norm for these cars?
Cheers

The cooling system in these cars can not regulate and maintain a constant temperature. Your numbers seem correct. In cold (for the San Fran Bay Area) winter rainy months driving near 80 mph my oil temp may hold at 170F. The same drive in warmer (100F) summer months the oil may hit 210F. On spirited drives I've seen as high as 260F, although 220F to 230F is more the norm.
One thing you will find is that the water temp gauge will always be 175F unless you really get the oil temp up there. That is, once when I got my oil to 260F (climbing through the Sierra passes in 100F heat, air conditioning on) the water temp got up to 178F.
It seems to be the nature of the 997.2 cars.

Those temps seem to be normal compared to the ones I get in Texas. Sport and Sport Plus will push it higher, 210-220 depending on outside temps. Around town, I'm usually in normal /auto mode - 180 or so with no traffic, creeps up a bit toward 200 in stop and go traffic. On the hottest days, add about 10 degrees to the above.

Thanks for sharing the experiences everyone. The higer temps I'm seeing are track days in sports plus and pushing the car hard. Water temp is staying rock steady.
Do you recommend more frequent oil changes?

I have the exact same temps. Track 8 days this season. If tracking the car, yes you should change before each track day or two. And definitely before and after a full track weekend (Fri-Sun).

All good stuff
The only other pearl of wisdom I can add is that in my car the oil temp gauge shows a couple degrees higher than the actual temp (measured with AIM SOLO-DL via CAN bus)
But that is muuuuuch better than the coolant gauge, which is totally useless

The coolant gauge is useless. If you consider that the thermostat doesn't even start to open until 185, the steady reading of 175 is just a "feel good" reading. In reality, the coollant temp hovers between 185 & 205 for me with the 3rd radiator.

Everything runs hotter during traffic.
