Default Moisture in the tail light issues

Hello all,

I have a 2010 carrera and looked at the rear end after a car wash and saw moisture inside the drivers side tail lamp section, any ideas on how to get rid of this, or am I screwed and have to get a replacement? thanks in advance --mike

Did you was by hand or a car wash? I've seen this before and sometimes it evaporates...depending on the weather conditions.

Wow - that's a lot of condensation. I'd check the taillight for a major crack or a blockage of the vent tubes. Maybe a hair dryer would speed up the drying process. Depending on how OCD you are, you might start looking for a replacement tail light. Even a little condensation can continue to stay around and this is a lot!! Let us know what you find.

I'm in Los Angeles and had the car washed a few weeks ago. Can I take it apart and reseal it?

no cracks that I can see, so I thought it maybe the seal/gasket. But since this is my first Porsche, I defer to you guys before I start taking things apart. Motorcycles no problem I'll strip it down to the frame, Porsche, I'm a bit actually more than a bit paranoid.
I've been called OCD so I'll start looking for a replacement.

Thanks guys

Take the taillight out (easy to do) and check the backside for cracks and make sure the vent tubes aren't blocked. Also make sure the rubber bulb seals are intact and fitted properly into their sockets.

2010 may be LED's so my bulb comment is probably NA.

Took the tail light off and its sealed, no drain plugs on the LED. I tilted it on it's side and water started coming out, it looks like the seal between the lens and the frame is starting to go. I guess I'll wait for it to completely drain, bake it at 170 degrees and silicone it..

you live and learn. On a side note as I was taking the the screws out of the offending tail light one of them dropped(crap) so I learned how to take a bumper off, all good

thanks so much for the info.

mike

PS
i got it apart!!!

Sadly, one of the discoveries of the LED taillight is they don't generate enough heat to keep things dry. The old school incandescent lights produced quite a bit of heat which help avoid such a problem. With such a new car, you need to bitch to PCNA. They shouldn't be failing this soon.

that's dirt cheap - in canada a single taillight from the dealer is about 2000$ cdn after taxes - around 1600 USD.

Sadly my 2009 Carerra just develop this too. So much water in the drivers side taillight it could be an aquarium. $600 to replace one side!

disgusting.

I just replaced both sides on my 2010 for 420 each. It was painful but the new ones look so much better.

From Partsgeek.com or from somewhere else? If not directly from Porsche how do you know it’s oem?
