Default AC fuse keeps blowing

My ac stopped working out of nowhere , the control panel went blank basically.

I checked the fuse and it was blown , its the 25 in the B10 location I believe it was. Changed it out , started car and it did work for a little bit but it blew again soon after.

Anyone have this problem before? Nothing on the car has been changed.

Did a search but couldn't find anything.

Update

The fuse does NOT blow if the ac is switched off and only blower motor running. So i must have a short on the compressor. Going to have my mechanic friend look at it. He replaced my starter and other misc work before.

may be the compressor clutch, itself, or the comp is seizing up causing the clutch to seize and blowing the fuse

Anyone else dealt with this? I confirmed that it only happens when I hit the ac off button (from off to on) so it is definitely compressor related. Do the clutches ever seize? Can you bang on the pulley to see if they release?

@Alleykat and @Turboslut -

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I'm having the same issue in a 2005 997.1 Cab. Keeps blowing fuses I think when the A/C kicks in. Last time I put a new fuse in, I smelled burning wiring sheath, so I pulled it and haven't put it back.

the fuse power goes to the clutch, so you can trace it around but probably replace the comp with a reblt or new

My fix ended up being the AC clutch. You can buy replacement clutch in Europe....Porsche USA tries to sell you a whole new compressor.

I don't know these brands....but part is easily accessible enough to want to save over $700. Installed in October 2019 and it is still working. I live in Florida so AC is always running.
